Did the Mayflower Gulch trail on 7/20/24 and saw so many wildflowers!! This is a great bang for buck hike where it's not overly exerting and the views in the gulch are beautiful. It was quite crowded today but luckily a wide trail and open space at the top to branch off from the crowds.

Absolutely gorgeous Hike! Although, not for a beginner, it's still amazing with lots of "picture taking".

Steep hike, crisp air, great views. Wasn't too crowded when I went for 4th of July.If you make it to the top where you have to start climbing to get to the mine entrances, I highly recommended screaming so you can hear your echo. It's just like the movies. You get to see some smaller wildlife. Leave no trace & be mindful of the animals and other people on the trail.

How could you not give this wonderful hike anything less than 5 stars!?!?There is plenty of free parking at the base. The walk to the trails is all up hill with trees and nature all around you. Once you get to the main trails you have options. There are old mining buildings for photo ops (or GASP just to sit there and take in all that God has created). There is a slight incline flat trail that leads to another building surrounded by the gorgeous and colorful wildflowers OR you can go to the right and go up the mountain (this is what we chose to do even though it looks daunting when you are at the bottom). I have never been on a 14'er but I do not see how it could be any better or more breath taking than the views I saw. Once you get to the top there is a rocky mountain that you can also climb. If you have brought snacks or any food save it until you go to the top of the mountain. There are so many places you can sit and soak it all in. Why rush down since you made up here. There is so much to take in. There are turquoise water areas to gaze at, other mountain tops and feel free to reenact the Sound of Music "Hills Are Alive"!Luckily I was there late July and the wildflowers were in full bloom. TIP: They are not the lightest thing to carry but bring your real camera for photos. Do NOT trample the wildflowers to get a mediocre phone photo for your IG. Let nature live and stand by the path for a photo. Hiking/walking sticks are great but if you forgot yours (like I did) it will not be a big deal.

It was kinda the most perfect Colorado fall day and the bf and I just needed to get outside somewhere and hike. Actually had no clue this trail even existed until I searched on my CO Trex app for a hike in Breckenridge and came across it.Not a difficult hike (i.e. no crazy rocks to jump over, climb, etc) and fairly short (i think about a mile and a half each way) but the views are gorgeous. Especially on one of the last days of September, every other leaf was yellow and if you look at the tippy tops of the mountains, you can still see slivers of white snow leftover from months past. Hey Colorado, why you always so pretty? You start at about 10,500 ft up at the base of the trail, so though the hike isn't anything crazy and you don't gain too much elevation-wise, you will definitely feel that thinner air all the way up there. A good trail to bring the kids though, and bikes, and dogs, and even your 4x4 can drive all the way up to the Boston Mine Camp ruins. Only 3 log cabins to be seen at the abandoned mine camp plus a couple of broken down, long neglected gold mine remnants along the trail to let you know you're headed in the right direction, so don't get your hopes up when you hear it's a Ghost Town. Still, a beautiful and interesting spot to explore. Definitely recommend this hike for a quick, half day adventure in the mountains.

Sigh, rarely do trails in Colorado disappoint me but Mayflower Gulch did. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a horrible hike by any means but I've had it on my to-do list for awhile and it was lackluster.I visited here on a Wednesday afternoon when I had nothing to do and this was theme to come. There were only 13 other people at most on the trail that day and the parking lot (which is free) was pretty empty. There is a decent elevation gain here +1,499 feet to be exact to land you around 12,500 feet once you get to the top. The hike is beautiful, especially once you get to the abandoned mining houses and there's a ton of wonderful photo ops. I guess I was expecting a harder hike with more switchbacks and scenery. I'm sure the haze from the Montana fires didn't help my views either. While I don't think I would do this hike again, it wasn't horrible and a great hike for those from out of state!
