Los Compas Mexican Restaurant

We needed our Mex fix on this trip.From the moment we walked in the front door we were glad we picked Los Compas.It's not a fancy place, but it is very welcoming.Chris greeted us with a smile and told us we could sit anywhere.They have a great menu selection.We chose the Carne Asada plate and a bowl of menudo.Both plates were great even though I like my menudo with a little more chili kick.Thanks Chris for the brief history of the city and of the key city attractions.We'll be back before we leave. I have to try the Chile Colorado.

While on a road to Florence we were craving Mexican food. I had the chicken enchiladas ala crema, they were very tasty, the cream sauce had broken but it didn't affect the taste. My husband had the Mexican chicken enchiladas and they were delicious. Each plate comes with rice and beans. The beans were amazing, as for the rice itself, I'm not a fan of vegetables in Mexican rice but that's just my preference. The chips and salsa were decent, we wished they had a spicier salsa, but this salsa held its own with good flavor. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to us.

We were in town for the morning & decided we'd try out a local restaurant for an early lunch. Upon arrival, we were advised to just grab a seat. I decided on Carne Street Tacos & I added a side of beans & rice. My husband ordered their Los Compas Burrito with ground beef & red sauce, there was a green chili option also. The chips were some of the best tortilla chips I've had at any restaurant, very light & super tasty. The salsa was also quite delicious & I loved that I could taste the freshness of the veggies & we ate most of it. Our food came out super fast & the portions were sizable. The rice flavor was different then most Mexican restaurant rice. It had some peas, green beans & carrots in it which was interesting & I welcomed the change. It was the same with the refried beans, I've eaten many sides of refried beans, but the flavor of these were on point. Lastly, the tacos were the star! The tortillas were soft & delicious, there were pinto beans which added a nice texture & the tomatillo sauce was some of the best I've had. We were VERY pleased with our meals. I took home some leftovers & as I was eating them I told my husband that I felt like all the food flavors were what I would have expected from a grandmothers kitchen, he agreed wholeheartedly. It tasted as though there was care & thought put into every aspect of my dish. So, if you're ever in Cañon City, I would highly recommend stopping in & ordering some great Mexican food. We will definitely be returning!

We will return!! That was amazing. First time customer here. The food was perfect. The service was perfect, and quick!! The place from the outside looks like a hole in the wall but when you walk in it opens up and is nice. Not sure if the owner has specific guidelines for the AC because it was warm but not super uncomfortable. If you are going to keep it that warm the margaritas need more ice. That would be my only critique. Cant wait to return.

Delicious food, wholesome portions and reasonable prices. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive .

Delicious well considered Mexican food. The Chef is willing to mix it up for dietary considerations and takes using my free range eggs for certain dishes with cheer and gratitude for the appreciation of first class food. The service is friendly and makes you feel at home. Good tequila options.

My daughters and I had lunch here today. The food is very basic. It's refried beans, cheap rice, cheap melted cheese. I can't recommend the chili rellenos that I had.Nonetheless, it was $44 for two meals !including the tip. (we shared, family style).We won't be back.

I wanted to give more stars, but service was bad. I went at 5:00 on a Saturday, not busy yet. One not so friendly lady took my order quickly and a second one brought my food and horchata quickly, and said the one who took my order would bring tortillas in a minute. Neither of them ever came back, not to check on me and see if I needed anything nor to bring my tortillas. They were never even close enough to my table for me to flag them down. When I got seated, I said I was in a bit of a hurry so I was gonna order right away, so you would think that the waitress would pay attention to my table so I could get my check quickly when finished. I had to eventually go get one of them so I could get eight to go box and my check, and I wasn't pleased that they never checked on me nor brought my tortillas. my food had very good flavor and I like it, but I felt very ignored by the waitress

I stopped in for breakfast this morning, I remembered how good it was last year. I'm visiting from out of town. I had the Huevos Rancheros. Delicious! This restaurant has not lost its touch. I will come back to try other dishes.

Food was good and fast. Waitress was amazing; made the evening for my mother-in-law celebrating her birthday. A small venue with great, authentic Mexican food.
