Lathrop State Park is made up of two lakes, Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake, along with a few hiking trails and wildlife lookouts. It is a fairly small state park, however parking is a plenty and they sure know how to take care of accessible needs. I'm not sure if a lot of people know about this park since it was extremely quiet when we visited. Martin Lake is used for boating and is also where you can swim. It's not a big area by any means, but it's not a busy place.Horseshoe Lake is solely for boating and fishing so it's a bit quieter and less crowded. There are a pretty good amount of campsites so nabbing a spot should be no problem. Lathrop, although in a more remote area, is beautiful and a great place to get away.

Lathrop State Park is located just a few miles west of Walsenburg, which is right off I-25 between Pueblo and Trinidad. It is a hidden gem for campers and travelers either driving through, or as a destination. It is an easy 2-hour drive from Denver. The location has beautiful views of the Spanish Peaks Wilderness. There are two lakes suitable for swimming, boating, and fishing. Lathrop is the only Colorado State Park with a golf course on site - a nice amenity! It is shared with the town of Walsenburg, and it looks like an interesting course. The campsites are clean, well-spaced, and generally quiet. Common facilities are well maintained and are easily accessible. There are several "loops" and plenty of piñon trees so there is plenty of space for everyone, so it doesn't feel like you are on top of people like at other campgrounds. Reservations are highly recommended - the sites fill up quickly!

Clean bathrooms. Lots of wildlife. Very beautiful views. Golf course and hospital nearby. Friendly staff. If you want a lake almost completely to yourself and family, this is the place. Very few boats on water. RV hookups and primitive camping as well. Has a walking trail and a swimming area.

We love this park! Beautiful lakes and a nice paved sidewalk to walk around one of the lakes that's about 3 miles. Picnic areas. Camping areas and live music in the summer months at the outdoor amphitheater. So many things to do. Hikes, nature walks and a nice information center that hosts educational events.

Bring ear plugs! Right next to a busy highway and train tracks. We heard cars and trucks all night and the train blew its horn about 10 times at 4 AM which caused the coyotes to howl and then there were gunshots. Also, we reserved a campsite online and someone was in it when we arrived. Usually a ranger will put a reserved tag on a reserved campsite but they didn't do that here.
