I took lessons from Svetlana ("Lana") back in 1996, and was surprised at how quickly I progressed under her unique methods of instruction. It was fun, it was exciting, and I looked forward to every lesson. Unfortunately for me, personal circumstances prevented me from pursuing my lessons beyond a certain point, but I was surprised at how easily I could sit down and pick out almost any desired tune when I was alone with my piano. She and I both felt I was progressing quickly, and I would have pursued my lessons indefinitely if it weren't for those other circumstances. Lana is immensely talented, highly educated in piano and music theory, and is the sweetest, most accommodating music teacher I have every had the pleasure to deal with. I don't know if she's the cheapest or not, but *GOOD* is what you should be looking for, not dollar signs. All these years later I remain friends with Lana and her family. Why? Because her students are like family to her. She's patient when you need it, and will drive a little harder when she senses that's what you need. Never in a rude or mean way... Just the level of firmness that you might need if you find yourself "slacking off." She was a way of giving "difficult feedback" in a way that still leaves you feeling good about yourself. Amazing! Give Lana a try... you WON'T be disappointed!Jeff Schinsky - Former Student and Constant Admirer

I've seen two sides to Lana's teaching, and they're both wonderful.I've observed her interact with her students. She uses many creative methods (including visual aids and recording) to convey her lessons, depending on what level the students are. And her students have told me that they improve more quickly with her than with their other teachers. She makes the time fun to keep people interested (no rulers on knuckles), but she also wants them to learn as much as they can. I like that she is flexible enough to teach someone just to play around by ear if that's all they want to do, but that she can also discuss the complex issues of concert pieces from the masters. After all, she was trained at the Russian Kazan Conservatory. From the personal side, she was easy to work with concerning my own lessons. When I'd miss a note, she'd gently ask if maybe that note should have been played a different way. When I couldn't take lessons every week, she encouraged me to just come as much as I could.I recommend Lana to all my customers who ask about teachers in the area, and I'd recommend her to you too.
