La Plaza Inn

Don't let the outside scare you away. Like an oyster the real treasure is on the inside. Nice looking dining room with a cozy feel. Wait staff was exceedingly friendly. They kept thinking things were taking too long to come up but it wasn't really. I'm willing to wait a little bit for good food. Had the Texas Double and man you needed to be a cowboy to finish that one. Onion rings were fresh and everything tasted great. If you're hungry and passing though give this place a consideration.

Stayed here at the inn for several nights after our water went out. Nice cozy room with fantastic rates. Pretty little old hotel. Breakfast sandwiches with ham and peppers! Yum and breakfast burritos!!! Lovely view walking up to the sunrise behind the church.Food was amazing, we ordered at the bar since they were only open for carry out since Covid. Come through Walsenburg quite a bit now and I really like La Plaza -had the prime rib dinner for $18 and the meat was good, broccoli too and decent baked potato. Bread and butter prior was super fresh. Really enjoyed the patio and live music on an early Friday night. We had fast service.

Real hit and miss. I ordered the burger which was excellent. Husband ordered the fajita salad "special" which was inedible. Staff was an odd mix. We asked after the history of the building and our waitress didn't know anything about its history so instead gave us an unrequested commentary on how marijuana is changing things in their City. Overall, a very strange experience. Would not recommended - but as our waitress pointed out there are few choices in town and they are really, it. Oh comma least I forget - they also charged us for both meals despite not being able to eat a bite of one of them and describing how rancid the chicken was. One last insult. But for that I would have not rated them at all rather than give a poor rating, which is not really my style.

We stayed here on our way up to the Sandune's and it was so quaint. It reminded me of places I've stayed in Austria and Germany! Very peaceful and friendly. Way more character than your chain hotels!

We decided to stay here for the location to Great Sand Dunes National Park. We'll be back for the incredible breakfast that's included with your stay. The chef cooks your food to order. Everything was amazing!! The fresh baked orange peach muffins were fabulous. The only down side was the low shower head with inconsistent water temperature. The breakfast had the room made up for it though.

Lovely meal on Saturday night. Staff was able to accommodate us, everyone was so nice. Table settings and decor were beautiful, food was great; had the fried oysters. So glad to have a nice place to go in Walsenburg.

We ate at the La Plaza Inn restaurant for our anniversary when we stayed at Pennington Place at Black Diamond, just outside Walsenburg. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch. My husband and I would highly recommend this place. The restaurant is in an old building with good character. We were greeted by Mary, very friendly--just the kind of person you want greeting your guests. Made us feel welcome and at ease, even though we were definitely underdressed for the evening and the setting.The menu was not too big, not too small and we settled on meals pretty quickly. My husband had the prime rib and a loaded baked potato (I think it is the special on Friday and Saturday night) and I had the salmon with veggies and rice. We both had dinner salads too. I'm not usually a prime rib kind of gal, but I had a bite and it had great flavor. My husband thought it was the best prime rib he had had in years. My salmon was perfectly cooked--I seem to often get salmon that is either under- or over-cooked. Very rarely just perfect, but this was. And the veggies--just green beans, onions, carrots were flavorful and fresh. The only (very minor) criticism I had about my meal was that the rice was just a little undercooked for my taste, but I don't typically eat much rice anyway, so not a huge problem for me. Just made it easier to save my carbs for dessert :)We shared the apple cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Yum. Yum. Yum. If you are here and this is on your dessert menu, give it a try. It's worth the calories, for sure.I'm so sorry that I don't know our waiter's name, but he was knowledgeable about the food, attentive (kept water glasses full and checked on us appropriately throughout the meal), and the whole experience was a positive one. This was the single worst hotel experience of my life. If you enter this establishment you are making a huge mistake. They booked a room that was completely under repair and then tried to give me a discount. They don't answer the phone and then after an hour I found someone to help me. Place is in disrepair!!! Huge warning!!!! I booked a room down the street and now I need to figure out if I was charged at the la plaza. I have two kids and wife and thankfully there were other options. This took about two hours to deal with during a vacation.. real bummer.
