Stopped by the Iowa location fir lunch and had great food and great service. Rellenos were some of the best, as was the flan.I travel and eat Mexican food in NM and AZ often, and LA Carreta is very good compared to any restaurants I've been to....highly recommended!

It was my first time coming here! Had the gorditas of carne desebrada and chicharrón con Chile verde. They were so good! This place is very authentic. It reminds me of my hometown (San Diego, CA) Will be coming back again for more gorditas!

Thank you Yelp for introducing my husband and I to this amazing little whole-in-the-wall mexican joint! We never would have found it without you! This place is seriously good! Don't let the sketchy shopping center it is located in fool you. If you truly enjoy mexican food, you will definitely enjoy this place. First of all, the service was amazing. The owner was running around attending to all of the tables making sure that every one of his customers had everything they needed. He was very attentive and gave good suggestions for menu items. My husband and I ended up both getting the Alambre dishes, except he got the one with shrimp and I got the one without. WOWZAS! The carne was cooked perfectly, it wasn't chewy at all despite being cut into such small pieces. And the bacon they put in it is perfectly crispy and compliments the dish flawlessly. The only thing I can say even slightly negative about this place is in regards to the salsa. It has literally no spice to it and resembles more of a pico de gallo than a salsa. Still tasty though. I asked for the spicy salsa which they are happy to give you on request in a tiny little cup. They present it with a warning, "This is really, really spicy. Be careful!" And seriously, DO be careful! This stuff is NO JOKE! Eat at your own risk!I will most definitely be back to this place and I have added it to my list of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Springs.

Staff was friendly but service was slow. Food came out cold, not a lot of flavor. I got the carne asade tacos. I had them top them like you would a street taco. The queso was pretty good, salsa meh. The rice tasted like chicken broth. So did the queso actually. This place loves chicken broth. It was all i tasted the rest of the night Anyway, the place wasn't bad but I won't be going back.

Super hidden secret for Mexican food! They've recently expanded, so there is plenty room for seating if you'd like to eat in. Monday-Friday they have $4 house margaritas from 3-6. The food is always fresh and delicious! You get a lot of food for the price as well! I had the grilled steak Avocado burrito and my daughter had the shredded beef Sope's. Both were amazing. The pico for the chips and salsa is for sure the best you'll find in Colorado Springs. The staff is friendly and helpful, and their restrooms are always clean! Definitely worthwhile to check out if you're in the mood for sit down Mexican!

UPDATE*** This is the servers response. Son of the owner. The lack of customer service is lacking so much at this place. This is probably the worse place I have been with. Beginning with service, we came in and sat down for a party of about 12 of us. The place was empty. I asked the server what time happy hour started and he said "I don't know there should be a bubble that says the time on the front of the menu" (there wasn't). I ordered a house marg that was actually really good. We then ordered our dinner. Some one in my party ordered a molcajete. When it arrived, it was missing half of the items listed. When I politely asked the server he said "well we don't serve it like that anymore". Due to his really bad attitude towards me I asked for the manager. When I told her the server was extremely rude she said well I am the owner and that's my son, I'll scold him later. The item was removed from our ticket but the plate was incomplete and not all that great tasting. I asked for a second margarita. It was served in a very broken glass and even spilling through the cracks. I ask for another. Manager/mom literally pours it into a different glass and hands it back to me WITH GLASS IN THE DRINK. I told her I would not be drinking it and did not want another. It was still on my bill when the bill arrived. At this point I no longer wanted to complain so I did not tell them about the fact that my 2 year olds meal was undercooked. It was left untouched. I have been in this industry for 16 years and hardly ever write bad reviews but this was such a horrible experience. Ambiance was off. You can tell this is the reason why the place is so empty. After a $300+ bill we left dissatisfied and will never return.

We went here once and it was great but this time was the worst. The fries of the cheeseburger meal taste really salted and the burguer was too oily or sweet. The chips are like stale the only good thing here are the sopapillas. And the employee take a lot of time with coffee. And it takes like 40min just for food.

The margarita was good, but my praise ends there. Ordered chicken taquitos appetizers as my meal. AFTER my two friends RECEIVED their meals, I was told they had run out of chicken - and would I take beef instead. 10 minutes later (and after my friends had significantly finished their meals) my food arrived - and it was not prepared according to the menu. Being hungry and with later plans, I accepted it. I had to ASK for a discount. Later that evening I experienced symptoms of food poisoning; assuming it was from this meal but cannot prove it. Will not return. Iowa Street location.

Why do so many people say La Carreta is good? Yuck. We went to the Iowa location today for Father's Day. It wasn't busy. Service was slow. All the food was only party warm, some was underdone, other thing were burnt. Everything was tasteless. When the food was served (one person a a time), we had to wave a server down to get silverware. The green chile was lumpy (with flour?). Even the salsa was bad; it tasted like tomato sauce relish. We can get better Mexi food at Taco Bell.
