Fun little place to check out. Good bourbon selection. Small dining room and bar area so go early.

I would give this place 5 stars for the atmosphere, it's a cool rustic atmosphere with a neat history. But we walked away feeling a bit dissatisfied with the service and food. When we walked in, we stood in the doorway for about 8 minutes and no one acknowledged us. I asked a worker for help to see if we were in the right place to wait, and they confirmed we were In the right spot. We waited another 5-8 mins before asking another worker who described what the hostess was wearing and said we would need to flag her down. It was dinner time but not crazy busy yet. We got the cornbread, the Caesar salad, and J Burger. There was a theme with all the items being really dry. We didn't finish the cornbread because it was dry/crumbly. The Caesar was the most expensive one I've seen (even for Aspen) at $27 without any proteins. It didn't have enough dressing, and I ended up not finishing it because it was just cheese and kale. They are known for the burger, but my partner didn't like it because the meat was dry and lacked seasoning (the fries were good!). The table next to us also sent their burger back because it was too dry, and then I overheard the others complaining and asking for more sauce/dressings to compensate for the dryness of their entrees. There was also an automatic 22% tip applied, which I understand if it's a group but it was just the two of us.

J-Bar is what happens when storied history meets an Auburge Hotel. Somehow this place is a cross between Hunter S Thompson (who hung out here in the 70s, when he lived out at Woody Creek) and the Montage, and it works. The refurbished bar here looks right out of a movie set, moody, old fashioned, richly appointed and atmospheric.Pricey bar food and beverage options here: good sticky ribs, excellent cocktails and some say the best burger in Aspen. All of the food here is delicious but more expensive than it probably should be. The period details in the J-bar and Hotel Jerome are not to be missed. You may rub shoulders with a billionaire tech CEO (we saw a recognizable one), alongside the other denizens of Aspen, including a customer who brought two painfully skinny dogs, possibly whippets (with their ribs literally sticking out) into the bar totally oblivious to the stares and withering looks of other patrons. Another day in Aspen! The bar and hotel must have radically changed since the days of Hunter S Thompson, but it's now a tony & fascinating stop on a night out in Aspen.

Excellent cocktails and service! Beautiful bar and you can ask to see the drawer that has original signatures of previous bartenders dating back to 100(?) years ago. It became tradition to do so when they left. All original wood. Really good espresso martinis. Complimentary bar nuts. Highly recommend

I'm going to cut right to the chase here: J-Bar is ALL. ABOUT. THAT ATMOSPHERE. A throwback to Aspen's mountain-town golden age, it still holds the glamour of the wild west and the daring souls who came to seek fortune and adventure in the Colorado wilderness. J-Bar is a perfect balance of turn-of-the-century splendor and silver-rush mining-town grit. Five stars for atmosphere. As for the food and drink...it's pretty good. The presentation is top-notch, the prices are sky-high, and the dishes themselves are...pretty good. That's my -1 star. And I do want to be clear about this - it's not bad by any means! Absolutely better than average. Just nothing that really makes the dishes or drinks stand out as "Wow! That is REALLY good!"And for these prices, you do expect a little more.Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place. It feels like taking a step back in time - it's worth going just to marvel at the décor and sip your drink in the leather chairs and reminisce about a grand era lost to history. A great place to treat yourself :)

Absolutely recommend this place. The food is amazing and the service is incredible. It was packed when we went, group of us after the Palm Festival in Aspen. Drinks and food are top of the line. Loved the vibe there too. A must go place to add to your list.

Buyer beware, #1604 on the wine list is incorrectly misrepresented, which one could infer that the other bottles of wine on the list aren't as advertised. We were given a wine of lesser value (different producer, vintage, etc.), which we mistakenly accepted amid the chaotic environment. When we brought this to the waitress' attention, we were given zero compensation and begrudgingly paid for the more expensive bottle of wine (that we never got!) Extremely disappointing experience and will not be returning... don't waste your time here, there are much better restaurants in Aspen elsewhere.

I tried calling for almost 20 minutes to arrange pickup. I did not want room service thinking I would be saving money considering I literally only wanted chicken noodle soup. I ended up walking down to order and pick it up. I was not feeling up to sitting to eat there. Not sure why they didn't pick up since it was pretty empty.$30 later!!! Wasn't even very good. Thankfully I saw the 22% gratuity automatically tacked on to the bill and didn't double up!
