This nice ranch campground is easy to find, only about half an hour northeast of Canon City. We were there to tent camp on a summer weekend and had TONS of space to ourselves. It's very open land... I wish it were a bit more wooded, but it's extremely peaceful, quiet, and has decent mountain views. The staff is friendly, although the older gentleman is a little hard of hearing, so speak loudly. The pool is extremely clean and refreshing! The bathrooms were under construction when we were there, but we still had access to them for running water, toilets, showers... not bad for camping! I would definitely come back to camp here. One more tip: Watch out for cows on the road in.

We took our first family camping trip here with a 4 and a 6 year old and they loved it. We tent camped and there were plenty of spots when we pulled in on a Thursday night. The campground host was very accommodating and showed us all around. There is a great pool that is right next to the bathrooms and shower house. The shower house and bathrooms were very clean and great all around for being tent campers. Even had hot water for showers. There were lots of Rvs there and we camped probably less than 100 yards away from them in a nice shaded spot and didn't hear a single noise all night. They have ice on site and a soda machine. We brought our bikes and were able to get around with the kids. They do have animals there as it is a working ranch so we did see cows. They roam the property but we only saw them while riding bikes back to the more dispersed camping areas. We will for sure check it out again and if your looking for a family friendly place this is a great spot. It's only 10 min to town and amenities. If your looking for a campground that's not on the highway but still close to town this is it. Also check the fire restrictions as they are under one now but it didn't make our camping any less fun without a campfire.

The campsites were basically just someone's field that decided to charge unsuspecting campers a fee to put up tents. There were cow patties through out the campsites. There was one restroom facility that was questionably clean. No paper towels just a dingy damp hand towel to dry your hands with. The showers were clean, but there was no hot water even during off-peak usage times. I'm sure this is a great camping place for RV campers, but tent campers be warned. It is windy and dusty.

Rustic, beautiful and absolutely perfect. It's a fur piece off Phantom Ghost Canyon Road -- I'm talking DIRT road for about 4 miles, but absolutely worth the drive. If you're looking for a private spot, but want to have access to a nice, clean, cool pool, electric, and water, look no further. Quiet, and then some. The family that owns it is very nice and happy to have you there. Restrooms are clean and newly remodeled. One star off for no dishwashing sink and not taking credit cards. They have great wi fi, picnic tables at each site. Man, I wanna go back.

What a great place. We stayed here for two nights while rafting at the royal gorge. The people who run it are extremely friendly and very accommodating. It is a ways off the main road down an old dirt road but worth the drive for the peace and quiet. The shower house was very clean. The only thing I would change is if they could figure out a way to vent the bathrooms a little more to allow the cool evening air in to release the heat of the day but no big deal. We did not have a chance to use the pool, but it was super clean and looked inviting. We loved our stay here and would definitely go back if ever in the area again. If I could give them more stars I would.

Wow! This quiet, friendly and perfectly located campground was central to the start of our summer vacation. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained and the pool refreshing... This family owned campground offered it all at a great price!

We're here over memorial day weekend and arrived here with a few surprises because the web site sells the place pretty well. The dirt road getting back here is super washed out and tricky for any low clearance trailer, car or camper. We arrived late and there are virtually no lights here nor was there late arrival information. We just picked a spot and hoped for the best. There is little grass, mostly dirt. The "solar heated pool" was not open. And we expected to be able to hike or walk the fossil area, only to find out after arrival this requires an escort and there is a fee. Another drawback were the "long term" campers, although the place was cleaner and more tidy than other campgrounds with tenants. The people working were kind enough to not charge for our first night late arrival and seemed overall pretty nice. If you're looking for a place to park, hang out and maybe hit the hills, this is probably your place.

We stayed here in 2010 and 2011 with our pop-up and enjoyed it despite washboard drive. Asked for a reservation in 2015 and was confirmed. Got there and there were no spaces available. In fact, entire facility was full of permanent campers (aka mobile home park) who pay $400/month. I learned that housing has skyrocketed in Colorado due to pot law. Called nearby park and got a nice spot.

I actually lived here for several months as a tent camper. E.M. is an moron. Over the four months I stayed there, I showered with hot water each morning. There is about a 2 minute learning curve on how to turn it on and sometimes it takes a minute for the water to heat up... just ask the office attendant if you are confused. There was always paper towels and if there wasn't, you can ask the office attendant and they'll bring some more, or a clean towel if they are out of paper towels. The staff do regular checks of the restrooms but don't have ESP, let them know if you need something. You have a ton of room to yourself, there is a large building for parties, receptions, dances, etc. There are also gigantic charcoal barbecues. There is a very clean, nice pool with a deep and shallow side, a nationally registered landmark fossil bed, hiking, bouldering, mountain biking, and the authentic wild west outlaw cabin of Wild Bill McKenny of Quantrill's Raiders, which you can actually walk around and explore. There are both wooded areas and open field areas the campsites are located on. Again, if you don't like something, let them know and they'll accomodate you. The ranch is not lush, it is arid, but it is also beautiful and gives you the reason for Colorado's namesake as the soil and rocks are a red hue (Colorado = Color Red). Whiners like E.M. who can't figure out how to operate shower knobs, are suprised there are cows on a ranch, and didn't expect there to be dust and wind outside should probably not be camping.
