They use lame and unsafe horses and ride in dangerous conditions. The horses are kept in deplorable conditions. Staff is uneducated, unkind, and impersonal. Please save your kids the heartache and find an instructor who actually knows what they're doing, cares about the safety of the children and horses, and can truly make your experience safe and positive because this program is the exact opposite and will end negatively.

Went here for the sunshine and storytime and had a blast! The kids job that day was to collect items in nature and build a nest. After story time we got to visit the goats and donkeys. There was preschool starting when we arrived, and they were out hiking and exploring. Signed up for a pony ride this weekend and excited to explore more here.

Horse camp is expensive. So, a good and positive experience is necessary. I have enrolled my daughter at HRCA the past two summers. We weren't super thrilled the first summer, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and enrolled her again this summer. She is a curious, excited, kind, and gentle 8-year old who was thrilled to ride a horse. Thanks to the staff at HRCA Backcountry Horsecamp, she is less excited and less enthusiastic and less sure of herself. I actually had to clean up my review a little because I was so irritated. If one is working with kids, expect their excitement and encourage, rather than talk down or discourage. In short--horse camp is expensive, kindness is of value, and a positive experience is a must.
