It was raining on and off, so we didn't get to spend much time outside. We did stop by the dam side and saw people fishing. It's a nice little walk on that side, then we went over to the castle-looking structure. This turned out to be a goat viewing area with some scopes to view the mountainside for wildlife. There was a lot of parking available.

Beautiful scenery in the fall. Plenty of changing aspens. Water is clear and crisp. There is plenty of room to have a picnic and take a hike. The surrounding mountains are serene and relaxing. Windy and peaceful. This is a great place for a day trip. We really enjoyed this spot. There is plenty of parking and bathrooms. Pet friendly.

I was so excited to see a frozen lake that was walkable! I'm from NC and our lakes never freeze. It was little scary at first! Georgetown Lake is visible from I-70 and right off the ramp entering historic Georgetown. There were people camping and fishing on the ice. My husband and I walked around the lake that was hugging the mountains. There are several trails that are accessible from the main path. There are also bathrooms available.

5/5 on a beautiful winter Tuesday afternoon. In January 2018, Georgetown Lake was frozen beautifully and completely while the weather was blissfully cool. From afar on I-70, you can see the lake from the left if you're going into the mountains from Denver. At first glance, we knew we had to seek it out. We loved the feeling of walking on frozen water haha. The highway connection was really confusing, so I recommend putting in "Georgetown Lake" into Google Maps to redirect yourself to this gem, because the correct exit is a bit tricky to find at first. From there, the small road will lead you to this beauty. There are plenty of parking spots once you veer off the highway roads. Be cautious, of course, if you venture out here when it's frozen. It may not be completely, but if you see people chillin' in the middle of it, and there are cones around the lake, you're in the clear of going out in the icy abyss. I would imagine this lake is fabulous in the warmer months too, the mountains hug it in a protective way and it gives a sense of peace, no matter the angle you face. Purely a treat for the eyeballs when the sun is shining or setting.

Great location for events and it is a beautiful setting! They hold the July 4th fireworks celebration every year, that is great. The 4th of July celebration is the true attraction. In the winter I think they close off the dam and that allows the lake to freeze over unlike the lakes upstream that are only partially frozen. We walked out on the lake when it was frozen and people were ice fishing. On top of the great setting you have Georgetown the city and the Georgetown Railroad Loop.
