*as promised I'm editing my review since I was finally able to get them to correct my charges. It is not a 5 star review because getting this corrected was a huge hassle that included going through the BBB and many many back and forth communications. Facility is sufficient but the owner's attitude and customer handling needs a lot of work . Very glad to be done with elite family fitness * I went into the location in July to talk with them about placing my account on hold for an upcoming surgery. The gal at the front desk (whose name I didn't ask for at the time) didn't have any idea how to put my account on hold and after standing at the desk for quite some time that day she said she'd done it. I asked her if it would automatically renew and she said no, just come in or call us when you're ready to start it back up. That was all I was told. At the time of surgery my estimated time out of commission was only 12 weeks, that being said, surgery complications arose and I have been out of commission for over 8 months.I was finally cleared by my doctor to go back to the gym so I visited the location on 4/13/23 and worked with Erin. At this time she helped me get switched over (or so I thought) to my Active&Fit subscription. She also informed me that there was a large (over $300) balance on my account. She looked and said the reason was that the "required documentation was never received". This was news to me because when I placed my account on hold I was not asked for paperwork of any sort and would have happily provided it (as it was already in my possession from the doctor).Per Erin's request I emailed in my paperwork from the doctor showing that I was not cleared for the gym between August 2022 and May 2023 (the account was placed on hold in July for the required 8-week pre-surgery quarantine). I know this is a monitored email address because they responded back to me the same day when I requested a copy of my contract. I sent this email with documentation from my doctor on April 25th, 2023, and didn't hear back. I sent a follow-up email on May 4th, 2023, and again heard nothing back. I called the gym on May 13th only to speak with a young kid who had no idea what to do (he admitted this) and said I'd need to call back next week to speak to "his boss". I called back on 5/16 and left a voicemail.Today (5/17) Art (who I believe is the owner) called me back and was very rude. He said, "You only told us your account would be on hold for 12 weeks so the balance on your account is still owed and we never got your doctor's note". I let him know I was never told to send in any information to which he replied "You have a copy of your contract, you should need to be told what is required". I let him know, per the contract, it states "IF A FREEZE IS APPROVED AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION IS RECEIVED" and doesn't specify what (if any) documentation is requested at the time of freezing my account. He again just continued speaking in circles that "even if the freeze had been done correctly it is a $10 a month fee" which is 100% fine. I will happily pay the $10 a month for the time my account was on hold as it states in my contract but I will not be paying an exorbitant balance that was only accrued due to a lack of staff training at his facility. The other issue is that not only was my account not frozen correctly but when I went in and gave Erin my Active&Fit membership information, it was not set up properly and now they are charging my debit card again the $34 monthly fee. Per the contract that Art so kindly pointed me back to "If you are under an active contract, not month-to-month rollover, and become eligible for insurance coverage memberships (i.e. silver sneakers, prime, blue fed 365, or many others.....) Then your contracted time will go onto a freeze status. At the time that you are no longer covered under one of those programs your previous contracted time will go back into effect." Which was clearly not done.At this point, my previous fond feelings about this small-town gym have been turned into nothing but wishing for time to go faster so my contract is over and I can gladly never do business with them again. I suggest anyone who plans to have surgery or freeze their account with this facility make sure you record every conversation had so that when the poorly trained staff makes mistakes on your account, you have more proof than I do. I am happy to rescind my 1 star rating if this is resolved and my balance is adjusted to the $10 a month from July 2022- May 2023. I also need to be switched to active & fit billing NOT debit card billing as this information was also provided to them. I had been previously very satisfied with this older but more than sufficient facility to meet my needs, however, the staff training and owner's demeanor are the sole reason that I am anxiously awaiting the day I can cut ties for good.

My husband and I were looking for a 24 hour gym to go to once he got off work and was recommended this place. The other reviews are about how bad the kids are and they aren't supervised. Sorry to say, but this is not a rec center where they hire lifeguards. It's probably and most likely the parent's fault for not keeping an eye on their kid (s). Even though we go very late at night, think after midnight most nights, we enjoy having the gym to ourselves. Only problem is that only certain weight machines have .5 weights. The other issue we have is the pool isn't open 24 hours, which we understand why.Recommened? Actually yes. True the front desk person may be testy, but overall the gym is nice. Always clean and rarely does it smell like a gym.

I used to have a membership at this gym and loved it! Now that I am back in the area, I stopped by the gym today with my 11 year old son to inquire about swimming (I'm trying to get my son in better physical condition) The lady at the from desk informed us that we'd have to come back during family swim time at noon because that elderly would throw a "bitch fit" if a kid was swimming during adult swim time. How does ANY person in the customer service field feel that it is okay to cuss in front of a customer, let alone a child?

Minimal upkeep at this gym. Roof routinely leaks with buckets catching the rain water every time there is a decent rain or snow. This has been occurring now for over a year. Hand grips on many of the pieces of equipment are gone or falling off. Dingy atmosphere that looks like something out of the 1960s. Obviously trying to spend the bare minimum to keep the place functioning. Able to get by with this because there is no real competition in Canon City with another modern gym (yet).

This place is dingy and dirty. The only place to sit is in the dark over crowded entry. There are signs telling you what not to do in caps with exclamation points on seemingly every surface. It is not a pleasant place to work out.

Rude, rude, rude. I give up on this place. Every time I went to use the pool there were kids unattended and running wild. The times I've asked staff to enforce the rules I have never got a positive response. So you have lost a paying customer! At a gym I expect the pool to be for exercise! Oh well I'll go to the city pool where there is some control.
