El Caporal

A great place for authentic Mexican food with large portions, reasonable prices and quality food. An extensive menu and so many great combinations available. Busy at dinner time so come a bit earlier if you want to eat onsite. Or order to go for a well packed and easy to serve meal. Really busy on Sunday evening but worth the wait.

No just no The waitress wasn't the nicest person. She was quite rude and harsh when we walked in and asked for a seat for 2zIt was not up to par with what we used to as far as Mexican food, we had the chicken and rice and an enchilada

Went to Royal Gorge in the AM and needed a snack after. Margs on the rocks with nachos did the trick. Service fast and waiter very nice. The place looked packed from the parking lot but we had choice of table or booth. Cool inside was good because 100 outside. Salsa and chips good, as was the guacamole. Will have to go back to get a dinner.

Best take out Mexican food. I went in and ordered enchiladas. They packed my food in a aluminum container that kept my food from getting cold or soggy before I got home near Westcliffe

Me and my mom was passing through Cañon City and I wanted Mexican food. After she saw the good reviews we decided to try it out. However, I believe those reviews were wrong. This restaurant was like a Taco Bell. The salsa was spicy, I liked it but they don't even give you a cup of it, I guess you gotta keep asking for it. My mom wanted to order queso since the salsa was too spicy, but they don't offer it which I never been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't have it. I got the chicken quesadilla and my mom got a chicken taco salad (they don't give a taco shell, but you get a few chips on top), the food did look good but the it didn't have any flavor. I feel like I could've made food better at home. Also, my cup was dirty which made me not drink anything with my meal. The service was good and the food came out in less than 10 minutes but I won't come back. I gave 2 stars because of the service and at least the food was edible, just not delicious.

Great Mexican restaurant! It's a family-owned business of many years, yet the immaculate decor looked fresh. There were lots of booths made of hand carved wood with tile accents in each table top. It was nice to be in a spacious restaurant. We were there for a light lunch. I got the small bowl of tortilla soup, and it was huge. I think it was one of the best I ever had: extremely flavorful and chocked full of chicken, fresh avocado, tomatoes, onions, tortilla strips, etc. it also came with 2 tortillas which appeared freshly made. Husband got the side order of 2 tamales and a margarita, both excellent. We look forward to coming here again when we pass thru town!

I was in Canon City on 2/25/25 on business. Stopped in to El Caporal for lunch. Food was very average. Service was slow but staff is a problem everywhere. My bill came to $20.49. When I was checking out the cashier added an ADDITIONAL $10.00 to my bill because I paid with a debt card!!!!! I highly recommend El Caporal if you are looking for very average food, moderately poor service and highway robbery pricing. Otherwise keep looking!

Overall good food and nice of the place to do takeout, I think food prices in general are a bit much, but this place does a great job on many menu items including enchiladas + chips & salsa.
