I was a little nervous about our stay after reading some reviews, but overall it's a wonderful family getaway. You just have to adjust your expectations. This is not a resort. But if you look at it as family summer camp, you'll have the best time. Everything is super clean, though outdated. Well-kept and lots of fun activities. The two pools are warm, there's cornhole, ax throwing, and more. Not to mention the horses. We didn't add the meal plan and brought our own food. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. We stayed for a family trip with cousins and would definitely stay again. Quick trip down the road to the hot springs and you can purchase discount tickets in the office.

Deer Valley has sadly dwindled to nothing in the last two years since the new ownership. This was our absolute favorite place for the last 50+ years. Community and family are no longer a priority. How tragic to see the IRREPLACEABLE amazing ranch that the Woolmington's created, be lost. My heart aches for the destruction of the most wonderful place on earth.

Do not trust their horse program. I know of four individuals during two different visits who have come off their horses and two were severely hurt. I will be dealing with post concussion syndrome and PTSD for the rest of my life. I have hesitated saying anything but the more I struggle the more others need to know. Two years later and thousands of dollars and hours spent trying to get back to normal and it is no where in sight. Don't trust them. You and your loved ones would never want to go through what I am going through. I wrote to the the board about all my concerns and my situation. I never heard from them. Sometimes I wonder where God is in a situation like this. Be careful.

For 22 years my family and I have been going to Deer Valley Ranch to celebrate Thanksgiving together.I can't speak for what it's like during the main season, but during the winter (off-season), it is a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The owners are really friendly, and the cabins are always cozy and sufficiently stocked with firewood for cold, snowy evenings.

My friends and I wanted a laid back place to stay this fall for a weekend of hiking in the beautiful yellow aspens. Deer Valley Ranch had incredible prices on their cabins. The facilities were spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and so easy to work with. I plan on staying here again!

My initial conversation with marjorie was so nice and she seemed so reliable, I decided to book with her, when two other ranches that I had gone to were already booked. I wish I had looked around more. My fault, based on other places I'd been to, I assumed there would be some food, but no, nothing. That means you have to drive everyday to buy meals, because you have no fridge and no microwave, and no ice. One day I bought a bag of ice and laid it in the tub so I could have breakfast without driving. There's an old Mr coffee pot which makes horrible coffee and you have to ask for new creamers everyday. There are two pools, one of which, the warmer one was drained, during my visit and so I swam once and cleaned the top of the pool beforehand. I didn't feel as if I was staying at a hotel or ranch, but as if, I was staying at someone's cabin on an Airbnb. It's my fault that I didn't ask about the food, but if I had a hotel or ranch, I'd lay out some fruit or cookies or something, because otherwise you're driving to Salida or Buena Vista everyday for meals. That's not very realistic considering you are coming there to get away. The problem is there isn't any service at all at DVR and the bare necessities aren't provided, as they should be. Combo, shampoo and conditioner isn't going to work on my hair. One time I walked in the kitchen looking for ice, which I was told I could do, and got ice eyes from the person in the kitchen, but no ice. The machine wasn't on. I know I asked for a teabag at 8 at night, but I figured somewhere there'd be a teabag, there wasn't, and so I left at 8pm to get one. I mean a tea bag isn't a speciality item, like I'd made some crazy request. I left a day early and stayed at another hotel, and when I returned home, to the east coast, I'd traveled really far to visit, I wrote to marjorie telling her why I left and what I thought of my 4 day stay, actually it was 3 days, as I paid for another hotel the last night in addition to the $165.00 I had already paid, and she was responsive and not defensive. She had purchased for me a pass to the hot springs which I really enjoyed and appreciated! She was friendly and kind. I just don't think she knows how to host people correctly and how to do small things to make it easier on the person staying at her place. If you serve no food, you could at least sell some basics and offer space in a fridge and use of a microwave. You should make fresh coffee everyday. How much would jt cost to buy a few bananas? You should assume people need more than two creamers in four days, and provide them. Marjorie is a nice person, but she needs to step up her game. I would never stay here again, and this is the first time I've said that about a place where I stayed. I'm not picky. I didn't mind skimming the pool, but when it was drained and the other pool was cold and shallow, it was annoying. I felt that the price wasn't warranted and had hoped she'd reimburse me for the last day, but she didn't. Oh well.

Stayed here last weekend (beginning of March) for a getaway with my boyfriend and the dog! We stayed in Whitehorn, perfect little cabin with amazing views. Deer came right up to our patio! DVR offered discounted passes to Mt Princeton Hot Springs which we took advantage of, as well as some local mild hiking. Perfect quiet getaway!

We used one of the cabins as a base for a fall getaway and it served that purpose very well. The cabin was nicely furnished, clean, and, important for me, filled with light from many windows. We had a delightful stay.

This is a delightful place and full of delightful folks. We couldn't have had a better time. The ranch is spectacular for sure. But what really makes a difference is the staff. From one of the the owner's [John] and the Front Desk [Bev] to the guy managing the barn and horses[Dave] they are all professional and happy and it shows in how they treat guests. I highly recommend Deer Valley Ranch.
