Solitary confinement!

Anyone you know?
Kind of a spooky feel of the Jail Museum building.

It was a quick stop with tons of info and only cost $5 to enter. I never realized how small those jail cells were and that you could jam up to six people inside. The lady at the front desk was knowledgeable and friendly.

Cool little museum with lots to check out so it's definitely a must see place to visit when in town. The cells are fun to hang out in but it also lets you realize how tough things were in days gone by. I also liked learning about the unique housing they have upstairs for women and children. Bonus tip: some of the Cripple Creek donkeys can be seen in the parking lot in the summers. Bonus tip 2: if you're into paranormal stuff, they sometimes have ghost tours at night.

This jail was used from the early 20th century to 1991. Tiny cells slept 6 in two tiers of hammocks that are set up for you to see. I suppose the conditions, although awful inside, might have been warmer than outside in the winter at 9,500 feet. The women and juvenile offenders had it slightly better upstairs with cots and bath tub available. Lots of well done displays. Maybe Ralph will be there to give you a mini tour. Only $3 to get in. Well worth the entry fee and time.

Wonderful little museum, only $3 admission, not a ton to read (mostly newspaper articles about notable "guests" at the prison). Really wished they had a guided tour or audioguides. I'd definitely pay extra for the service as it's always a lot more fun to visit historical sites when a narrator explains about the place. I still think it's a great museum for both adult and children alike to learn about history, get out of the summer heat or spend a rainy afternoon learning about our past. The staff was also very welcoming and friendly, which never gets old ;-)

Not only did we love it, our little 8 month old baby loved it! Granted, we were the only visitors this chilly morning so we had the entire jail to ourselves. We were warmly greeted and given the history of the jail. Once we were able to tour the jail, the reality of the history sunk in. What an amazing experience! Super affordable and rich in history. If you are coming to Cripple Creek, CO, you'll have to take time to stop by. It's worth it!

Such an interesting experience. Reasonable entry (only $5 a person!) and self guided tour, somewhat interactive. The stories in each cell are fascinating and the fact that this jail was still in use up til the 90's is pretty wild.

So much to learn. I wish I could remember the lady's name that showed us around. She was wonderful with my autistic son who had more questions then the rest of us. She also told us a lot of places to visit and made our vacation even more wonderful.
