It has taken me weeks to write this review. My daughter attended Colorado Ballet Society for about two years. She began to have complications with her pointe shoes. We asked numerous times if she could try another shoe. She was told that not only could she not try another shoe but if she does not continue to wear the shoes that hurt her feet she could not be trained there. When the director Patty emailed me this information I was devastated, and my daughter was beyond distraught. She had just finished summer intensives at CBS and she had been moved to level 5. She was anticipating moving forward with dancing there. In order to ensure our daughters safety and continuing with dance we had to make the best decision for her and her health. The idea that my daughter was expendable was hurtful to us. We would like for our daughter to dance at a school where she is appreciated not tolerated. The decision that was made was uncalled for and we realized that this dance school does not care about the health and welfare of its students. I don't need anyone from the school contacting me or replying to this review. My daughter experiences here may not be the same experience as others, however it was our experience and is true.

Ballet Society of Colorado Springs has most certainly earned its reputation of being "Southern Colorado's Dance Leader"! Ballet Society provides superb training, for both pre-professional and recreational dancers in a caring, positive, and warm atmosphere! All of the teachers are wonderful, and Ms Patty has trained many dancers who have gone on to professional dance careers. In addition, BSCS students are regularly awarded dance scholarships and invited to attend some of the most prestigious Ballet programs and Summer Intensives in the world, including ABT, PNB, England's Royal Ballet, Canada's National Ballet School, Houston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Kaatsbaan, Ballet West, Colorado Ballet, Ballet Magnificat, and many others. Through the years, directors of these programs have recognized that Ballet Society's training produces beautiful dancers capable of reaching their maximum potential! BSCS is also home to the highly acclaimed Colorado Youth Ballet, whose annual production of The Nutcracker at The Pikes Peak Center has become a Christmas holiday favorite in Colorado Springs. The Youth Ballet also gives its dancers wonderful performing opportunities in its presentations of full-length ballets such as Swan Lake, Cinderella, Coppelia, Midsummer's Night Dream, Peter and the Wolf, etc.My daughter enjoyed many joyful years at Ballet Society and made wonderful, life-long friends! Truly one of the finest ballet schools in the country!

I went to Ballet Society for just under two years, and when I left was in one of the highest levels there. The environment was extremely competitive, creating extreme drama and tension among my level, and putting a lot of strain on friendships. Favoritism is very strong, and I began to have panic attacks (nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, distress) towards the end of my time there during class because I was so afraid of being yelled at and/or humiliated in front of my classmates. While it may work for some, I prefer different methods and a teaching style based on respect for all involved. I emerged from my time at Ballet Society discouraged, insecure, and truly doubting my worth as a dancer. The emotional damage I left with really undermined how I saw myself as a person.

My daughter danced at this studio from the time she was 5 to the time she recently graduated high school. The combination of quality instruction, professionalism and opportunity for my daughter to participate in different tracks of programs based on where her interests would lead (pre-professional or more recreational) were all reasons for the initial pull to Colorado Ballet Society. As far as why we remained for all those years: there is a standard for teachers as well as students that is inclusive of all dancers and I found my dancer was not only growing in her art (where attention was given to what each individual dancer's needs were) but her character as well. Passion for the art of dance is clear and evident at Colorado Ballet Society but so is passion for the development of great character, commitment, perseverance and confidence through performing. This place has all around been a wonderful place to be a part, and neither my daughter nor I could imagine her life's journey without it. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio! You will fall in love like we did.
