Nice train display. This area is where passengers waited for their train ride.
Another nice angle of artifacts on display. You see this area immediately after entering the museum and looking right.

"No Spitting" signage. First time I ever saw this displayed in a museum. They took this seriously back in the day!

I stumbled across this museum while walking around Castle Rock on a Saturday afternoon. I was told that this building originally sat where the fire station is located downtown. It looked like quite the project to move this building to the current location. Unfortunately, this location is "out of sight, out of mind." I feel that this museum is an important part of Castle Rock history. Part of the original flooring is still intact. And the graffiti on the right end of the building was interesting. Various graffiti on the wall was explained to me. I was impressed that there was so much to look at for such a small building. I was fortunate to have a guided tour by a staff member. I believe staff are volunteers. They also feature various presentations about Castle Rock which are actually held at the library (Phillip Miller). They also have a nice gift shop. Make sure you browse the various items. They sell some nice books. I purchased a Douglas County history book for half off the price. Again, I felt fortunate to have a staff member tell me about various history events in Castle Rock. This experience gave me a really nice appreciation for being a Castle Rock resident. I love learning the history about any community I live in. There is also an opportunity to purchase a brick ($100) where the proceeds go to the museum. The brick is placed directly outside the museum for display. It was very nice to see all of the bricks purchased so far.The museum visit gets better when you exit and walk through the back yard. It's a nice area to sit at and rest for a nice weather day. There are some nice buildings to look at as well. You can also have an opportunity to look at the donor bricks on the side of the building. I recommend this museum if you're a Castle Rock resident or visiting. I also recommend it if you live in Colorado. Take a trip to Castle Rock and have some breakfast or brunch before your museum visit. Make sure you check their hours of operation. Enjoy!

My sister in law somehow came across the museum's "Ghostly & Tragic Tales" Walking Tour of Castle Rock & we figured it'd be the perfect spooky season activity to add to our list! We also love to learn any history about where we've moved as we know nearly nothing! The tour starts & ends at the museum which is a cool building chock full of stuff that you actually get to browse before or after the event. You really do walk all over the downtown for the tour & I loved that the guide went all out dressing up for the Halloween season. I'll take any excuse to walk around CR as it's so charming but we really did learn a ton & see many details that you just don't notice when your rushing to meet your party for dinner at the local restaurant.I hope they are able to keep doing this tour. We had a good size group & it seemed like all their other tours were either full or full with a waitlist. And the tours are free! Though consider donating as it keeps the lights on. Definitely a fun way to spend an evening you can easily top off or begin at one of the great places to eat in town. I know after the tour I'll certainly never look at a lot of the buildings the same way!

This really is not a destination museum, but it is a very nice, quant catalog of the history of our town. If you choose to live here, you really should visit at least once. Castle Rock has gone from train stop town, to AG town, to bedroom community and now a suburb. The chain stores and the town's focus away from local business has really stripped the charm Castle Rock had away over the passed 20 years. It's crucial to keep a grasp on the roots of the community you chose to move to. I can't encourage everyone enough to visit the museum and the Castle Rock Library for a taste of local history.
