She did it again! Renee made beautiful cookies, cake pops, and cupcakes for my daughter's second birthday. They were delicious, creative, and Renee is so reasonably priced and efficient. She's a pleasure to work with and truly gifted.

Renee at Astonishing Cakes did a fantastic job creating a custom cake for a baby shower I hosted for a friend. I sent her an email with a sort of vague and quirky request (a moose-themed baby girl cake) and some general guidance, and she pulled together an AMAZING cake. It was absolutely beautiful and tasted delicious as well. It was truly a work of art--we could hardly bear to cut into it--but we were glad we did because it was so yummy--great flavor and texture, delicious and not too sweet. It was definitely the hit of the shower. Her prices were also incredibly reasonable and she offered delivery, and showed up right when she said she would. I'm so glad I found her--and now I have a go-to person for any future cake requests.

Renee at Astonishing Cakes has made my son's birthday cake for 3 years in a row. She is very creative and professional. You can tell she really enjoys making cakes and takes her art very seriously. I have given her themes and let her run with it. I have also asked for something very specific that she executed it perfectly. The first year was a great Star Wars themed two tiered bad boy. She came up with a design from The Empire Strikes Back, it was awesome. The second year I wanted her to make cake pops that looked like "lego guy" heads (saw on Pinterest). They looked exactly like the photo I gave her. She on her own though came up with the coolest way to display/stand them up. Now after 2 years of getting my son cake (knowing he doesn't actually like cake) she suggested a rice crispy treat cake which she added chocolate chunks to. This was a hit with the kids and the adults (super yummy). The theme was Mine Craft by the way and again it exceeded my expectations.

We got our wedding cake from Rene and it was amazing!! I've been to a lot of weddings with bad cake, but we got so many compliments on how it looked and how it tasted. She was so helpful, and seriously the cake tasted awesome!!!She was able to do exactly what we wanted, multiple flavors and a rustic design. Perfect option for any wedding!!

Astonishing Cakes is as their name describes -- astonishing! Renee created a unique + stunning James Bond cake for a rad styled bridal shoot we collaborated on. Her attention to detail was incredible, and I was blown away when I saw her amazing creation. She also crafted cake pops + caketinis, which are perfect for any wedding or event. They were delicious + rich. Can't wait to work with her again!

Both my sister and I (bride) reached out separately to Astonishing Cakes to inquire about my wedding. Despite me being the actual potential client and reaching out a week earlier via email, I never heard back from her. Rather, she returned my sister's phone call days later stating her hands were too messy from baking cakes to return emails and phone calls were easier for her. While I don't doubt this, the website should not have an email contact submission if Renee does not plan to respond to it.After paying the fee to taste cakes ($25, applied to your total if you end up using her services), we headed to our tasting which was at a bridal consignment shop. Despite us listing and her confirming in writing that there would be three of us at the tasting, when we showed up she only brought samples for two, so we had to share the small sample.During the tasting she mentioned that she left her portfolio in her car, but she did not offer to get it to show us her work. I was familiar with her style as I had been on her website, but my fiance was not. While this was a matter of personal preference, the cake recipe she uses was more dense and dry than others, which she stated was intentional for cutting purposes. This being my first tasting, I accepted what she was saying (which I now know is not true!). Texture aside, the cake itself lacked flavor and there was a hair/long piece of dust in the icing of our sample. Renee also pushed us to use fondant despite us wanting a buttercream cake. It also took multiple attempts to get on the same page about what we wanted our cake to look like. I submitted photos ahead of time but wanted a color change, and she had a tough time registering the color difference we wanted (we wanted green, she kept saying red). When we were talking about our wedding date and availability, Renee thought our wedding was on a Friday (it was on a Saturday, which I submitted to her in our tasting request) because she was looking at a calendar for the wrong year. She said she was free to do our wedding since she hardly has Friday weddings, which raised more red flags about her organization skills. During the tasting Renee mentioned that she had just come from a photoshoot so, at the time, I believed she was just overwhelmed, though I knew then I would not be moving forward due to the poor experience. Five days before my wedding and after months of no contact following the tasting, Renee left a voicemail asking when I plan to pay the final invoice and if our delivery time was still 5:00 PM (a time after when our wedding would have actually started had we booked her, so I'm not sure where that time came from). I returned her call assuming she had contacted the wrong person, but her response was that she was just checking to make sure I wasn't planning on using her services.Additionally, she immediately emailed me an invoice for $622.85. As I never signed a contract or verbally agreed to move forward with her as our baker, and we never discussed final numbers, what flavors we wanted, the delivery window, etc., I was shocked to see the assumption being made that she was still making my cake after zero contact since the tasting months earlier and only 5 days before our wedding. Renee's cake are visually lovely, but the lack of organization, the quality of the cake, and poor experience overall made me glad I did not use her for our wedding.

Renee made two cakes for me and they were amazing! I was able to send her pictures of what I was looking for, and it came out better than anything I sent as an example! Not to mention, they tasted awesome! Guests at each party said it was the best cake they ever had... And now, they only want cakes from Astonishing Cakes moving forward! Thanks so much Renee, you do beautiful work!
