When you're driving by on Speer, you're sure to notice the beautiful gardens and the many benches on which you can just sit, relax, and enjoy the park. If you actually stop, you'll find quite a bit more! First, don't miss the info sign on the north side of the garden, which provides a fascinating history of the park - including water slides and guns! From there, you'll also find multiple picnic areas, plenty of green space for the pup, and a playground for the smaller kiddos. Enjoy!

Alamo Placita is one of the oldest parks in Denver. Commissioned by Denvers first mayor, Robert W. Speer in the early 1900's. Before the advent of motion pictures, Alamo Placita Park was once known as Chutes park where a team of trained Elk would run up a 60 ft high platform and dive into a tank of water. Today, the grandeur of this park can be clearly seen amongst the beautiful and carefully crafted rows of flowers and fields of lush green grass and is located on the north side of Speer Boulevard between Ogden and Emerson Streets. In 2000, This park was designated as a historic district by the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission.

Great spot to sit on a bench and stop to smell and enjoy the flowers. Their fragrance dances on the breeze and is such a delight. Gorgeous array of flowers in different colors planted in patterns among lush grass. Little gem of a park nestled in between a busy street, some basketball courts, and cute houses. Make sure to check out the sign off of Ogden and 3rd for a brief history of the park.

Well shucks, I didn't know this puppy even existed. It's small. And even though it's basically right off Speer, it's nicely separated from the traffic and set back into the adjoining neighborhood. There's a playground with a swing set, multiple picnic tables (though with no cover), a substantial green open area, a basketball court, and an on-site porto-john that is kept relatively clean. It's a quiet park filled people minding their own business, neighbors walking their dog, etc. We were the most raucous bunch there (put eight 30-somethings who still think they're 20-somethings in a park together after not seeing each other for over a year and things get buck-wild with really loud conversation and laughter- sorry people!).Turns out, also, that the sunsets in May are gorgeous in this park. The whole sky turns pink and the trees and grass are bathed in rose hues. Sure is purty. Not big enough to run in, but perfect for a small get-together, reading a book by yourself in some peaceful environs, or shooting some hoops.

I always drive by here & finally made my bf stop one day... the little garden of colorful flowers near Speer was awesome! They were a few people milling around... but not many and it was a very tranquil and nice experience. I love that Denver has these little flower gardens in their parks. The park extends back into the residential area and has a small playground, basketball court and an expanse of grass and trees as well as picnic tables to enjoy the day. It looked like a nice little neighborhood park.

Wake up and smell the roses, @ Alamo Placita Park that is. Here spring time is alive and well. This is abruptly a smaller portion of Green around the inner city. Not as big as Cheeseman Park, yet very engaging with the public. Full with lots of people and dog friendly. I enjoy the nights parking next to the sidewalk and watching the stars at night. Bring your lover here, because it's a chance to pick them out a clever flower as a small but prized gift.

I miss living near this little park. I used to visit frequently either with friends that had kids or to read a book and enjoy the sunshine. It's never overly busy which makes it a perfect park for solitude and reflection.

Wow this place is cool!!!!I don't know how many times I have driven right past this place in my life, but it has been at least hundreds. I had no idea this place was even here.We recently went to a wedding that took place here and I was blown away. The flowers are laid out beautifully, and it appears to be meticulously maintained.Kale!!! Never new that I liked kale as a decorative plant, but it was fantastic. As a wedding venue, this place was great. A natural isle and center, great flow.I don't think a huge wedding would work here, but a smaller one, as the one we went to was fantastic.Don't be like me, don't drive by this place for years, stop today!!!!

Best park in Denver. Live within walking distance and have used any excuse to go here. A couple beers on the swingsets late at night, don't tell anyone. A pickup game of brisk brunch basketball isn't out of the ordinary during the fall. A grilled burger or two in the summer. Frisbee on the north end with the trees as boundary lines and obstacles. Not to mention the flowerbeds and their blooming, which in late August are so vibrant you get an ice cream headache, even if you're not eating any.But the magic is in walking around the park and the surrounding neighborhood as fresh snow falls. The streets are empty. A single car might glide by, but rarely. The solitude and silence, even within the city proper, is palpable. Every sound gets magnified and for the briefest of moments, everything is once again magic, like when you saw the city lights from far away for the first few times.Oh and it's a haven for soccer moms, if that's yer thing.Make sure to read about the history too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Placita,_Denver
