Let's start with what it isn't: fine dining, date night ambience, healthy options? Nope all round. But...if you want a sloppy slaw and sauce foot long coney (that will get on your shirt) and a pile of hot crispy fries...well this is your new bestie. The food comes out a tad slow...but everything is cooked in front of you fresh...so it's understandable. Everything about this from the old school diner seats to the friendly owner says "neighborhood institution". Parking is easy and the neighborhood is fine. If you need hotdog, then you aren't looking for healthy vegan. This place will definitely satisfy the hotdog craving.

Don't know how I ended up in Mansfield, but I did. Can't say I was looking for it either but there she was, Wiener King. Upon entering, me and my buddy were greeted with the warmest hospitality and downright homey feel. Figured I'd go with the world famous footlong with some jalapeno poppers, washed down with a diet pop (notice I didn't say "soda"). Everything tasted...right. Can't say it was the best hot dog meal ever, but you damn betcha inbetween bites of that footlong my eyes gazed on the walls of pure mid-late 1900's nostalgia... everything felt right in the world. When I make my way back to middle of OH...I will definitely stop here.

This was a cool little restaurant I found while I was recently vacationing in this area. It's a basic little inexpensive restaurant that has little sandwiches, hot dogs (obviously), and other little side item type of things. There's lots of cool, local decor in here and I had a lot of fun checking it all out. The guy that runs the place (I think) was really cool as well. While I wouldn't say this is a single destination spot for a vacation it's definitely worth a look if you're in the area and the prices like I said are very reasonable and if I lived in the area this would be a frequent stop for me. Now onto my food review...Footlong Chili Dog Chicken Wings Onion Rings What Is It: The footlong comes with chili, liquid cheese, mustard, and maybe onions although I'm not sure on the onions as I don't like raw onions and would have had him leave them off if they came with it. The onion rings are exactly what you'd think and don't come with a dipping sauce. The chicken wings are the breaded kind and have a slight bit of spice in that breading but not much.Presentation: Very traditional packaging as you would expect from a joint like this which I appreciate. The footlong isn't the most appetizing looking thing in the world. The chicken wings and onion rings look decent however.6 out of 10Taste/ Final Analysis: I got the footlong as it was highly touted on their menu and I wasn't at all disappointed. The chili was delicious which important and I personally like the liquid cheese. I wouldn't put it on the leve of Silver Grove Dairy Bar (check out my review of this place if you're unfamiliar with it) but it's darn good. The chicken wings were slightly below average although not terrible for a place that doesn't specialize in them. A dipping sauce like ranch or a Buffalo sauce would have helped some I think. The onion rings were a good size and had a tasty breading but like the wings could have used a dipping sauce. All in all despite these minor complaints I was very satisfied with this meal and for what I paid was a very happy guy. Footlong Chili Dog: 8 out of 10Chicken Wings: 4.5 out of 10Onion Rings: 6 out of 10

I want to thank Marcin Szymañski for buying Daniel and I lunch. We were supposed to go to Weiner King on Friday after our trip to our new Internist in Ashland, but I was too exhausted from the 1 hour round trip to Ashland and the stop at University Hospital Samaritan Hospital for Daniel's bloodwork.Weiner King is on the edge of closing (back in 2016, the manager/owner had some heart issues and his friends and customers remodeled the restaurant for him and they had a grand reopening...now in 2018, his father has been in a nursing home and the manager/owner's siblings have been pushing him to sell to get their portion of their legacy from their father out of the business...so the manager/owner is trying to buy out his siblings interests). We have wanted to go, but according to Google they did not take credit cards, and we never have cash once the bills are paid. So we could never afford to go.With Daniel sad that another aspect of his childhood was perhaps going out of business he wanted to see them at least one last time.Google gave us another it of bad data and said they opened at 10:30 (they opened at 11:00).Well we went to Daniel's doctor appointment for his surgical consult, and met with the staff of my Cardiologist for Daniel to make an appointment (they received his referal this morning in the computer). Then we went to Kroger for prescriptions and the other stuff Daniel will need to prep for surgery on Monday. Then we went to Weiner King and pulled in around 09:45. So we waited for the place to open (this is when I saw the sign that said it opened at 11:00...and I had Daniel get out to verify since my left eye is my bad one that changed 2 powers weaker since my glasses a year ago).So we waited. The manager/owner arrived around 10:00 to get the place set up for the day...he came out in a jovial manner and asked if we were lost...and to let us know he does not open until 11:00. Told him we did not mind waiting, no rush.Daniel and I each had a "Weiner King Special" (chili cheese dog with mustard and cole slaw, but swapped sauerkraut for the slaw on both since Daniel is not a fan of slaw). I had fries and Daniel had onion rings. He had a Pepsi and I had a Root Beer. All were excellent for what we had. Some of the freshest and best prepared food we have ever had from a similar joint. For desert we had their "Fried Apple Pie Sunday" with sort of a "McDonald's Type" fried apple pie (but much better) with sugar coated pecans I believe, some Carmel syrup, and covered with soft serve. We also split an order of funnel cake fries. The desert cost more than the meal, but it was worth every penny.I am a pessimist, I RARELY give a "five star" rating to anything. But this place deserved every bit of it. The service by the manager/owner and his cook/waitress was what you would expect at the best of diners. The friendliness and humor were well appreciated by both Daniel and I.Being disabled, I have had plenty of bad service and people acting like I am mentally disabled just because I'd a physical disability (lifetime MENSA membership and two Doctorates, so I am far from dumb...and Daniel is only two classes away from a Bachelor's in Religion, only his being in a lawyers party fraternity caused him to let his grades slip in his final semester so he is far from unintelligent either). If we could afford to go more often we would go here once a week. It was a wonderful experience and I could not wait to come home to share this with my friends, as a review on their Facebook page, and as a review on Yelp and TripAdvisor. If in Mansfield, please give this 40+ year old family owned business a shot, you will be glad you did.

Wiener King is an iconic landmark located in Mansfield, Ohio. This old school fast food joint serves up their famous coneys, footlongs, burgers, steak sandwiches, fries, onion rings, fried finger foods, wings, Coke fountain drinks, shakes, fried apple pies, and ice cream. They have a deep fried apple pie sundae too! The prices here seem very reasonable. The place has that 1970s vibe which is order at the counter and there is ample hard booths in the open indoor dining area.I stopped here for lunch recently. I got the Wiener King Special ($2.05), which consists of a grilled hot dog topped with homemade chili, cheese sauce, mustard, onions, & sweet minced cole slaw on a soft hot dog Roll. The loaded coney was not too messy to eat with some extra napkins. Now that really hit the spot!I will be back here in the summer!CASH ONLY

I remember as a child eating at wiener king restaurants in southern California. As an adult it is a great pleasure to be able to stop by Jimmy's Mansfield Wiener King when I am in the area. The restaurant continues to serve up its traditional famous coneys, foot longs, burgers and fries, while adding new items to the menu like tomato basil soup and grilled cheese, along with its new mushroom and swiss burgers. The prices are incredibly affordable. On top of this the restaurant while no longer a part of the now non-existent national chain attempts to provide a visual history of local decor. I would recommend anyone to stop by this local burger and fry shop and enjoy the food and restaurant.

First time stopping here and I'm so glad I did! Onion rings were amazing, i loved the crisp breading on them. Cheeseburger hit the spot and the vanilla milkshake was the perfect companion to it all. Super thick and flavorful. The guy behind the counter was incredibly nice and seem genuinely grateful for the business. I'd take his place over any of the fast foods in the area. The 5-10 minute was well worth it!
