The Farmer's Rail - Hudson

This was simply not a good experience. Came here with my family from out of town and we left very dissapointed. Service was not great - our server was polite but she was by no means kind either. I believe the most she spoke to us was at the end to thank us for coming in but we felt very unwelcome. To start, when we got to our booth there was food all over the cushions but we were able to brush these crumbs off. Our party ordered soft drinks that tasted off, possibly the mix was off but they tasted flat? When we told the server she simply did not say anything but brought an iced tea instead as a substitute. The drinking glasses appeared very dirty but we could tell our waitress was unhappy about our remark of the soft drinks so we just sucked it up. We ordered appetizers, however when they arrived we had to wait until we could get another server's attention to get some silverware for our party to finally enjoy these appetizers. It was roughly 3 pm when our group arrived and the restaurant did not appear overwhelmingly busy, with ample staff available on the floor, yet we sat with our food for some time. The French onion soup still included the bay leaves, but the wings were pretty solid. When we went to order we were told they were sold out of the French dip and cheesesteak meat - this would have been good to know early on by our server as our group reviewed the menu. When our entrees arrived, those who ordered drinks were never offered a refill. Our server never asked us if the food came out okay. The chicken tender entree on the menu indicated you receive 4 tenders, yet our entree only received 3 - and at an $18.00 price point you would expect 4 tenders. Of course, our server never came to check on us so we never could share this information. When our waters were finally refilled the water from the pitcher had black floating things in it - which turned us off from drinking our water considering the glasses already appeared dirty and we seemed as an inconvenience to our waitress. Lastly, as a warning to other customers - we were charged a credit card service fee on the final bill. There was nothing stated on the menu or in the restaurant that we would ever be charged this fee. I understand small businesses walk a fine line between shifting costs to consumers, however they should absolutely disclose the credit card fee on their menu. Especially so customers can be informed and choose to pay with a debit card or cash, etc. Definitely do not plan on coming back here.

Love the atmosphere and wood decor in here. They don't take reservations or call aheads so you kind of need to have a backup plan if visiting but we got lucky and got a table right away at 11am when they opened. The chicken was the best chicken I've ever tasted at a restaurant - I'm so picky about chicken I rarely order it out but figured from a place that's specializes in meat you can't go wrong! My friends who got the other dishes pictured loved everything - lots of clean plates all around. The lemon tahini dressing on my kale salad was chefs kiss...going to try to recreate at home for sure. Def check this place out! I'm looking forward to going for dinner.

The ambiance is cool and welcoming. Great drinks! I ordered a wedge salad and steak to go. While I waited I had a delicious Old Fashioned at the bar. Perfect little midday treat.

Now that this has switched over to a restaurant only I am slightly disappointed,. I've eaten there several times. I tend to get the same thing every time. The quality control has gone down dramatically. I like to get the berry salad with salmon. The last two times they forgot to put the candied almonds, which is one of my favorite parts. This time they gave me a tail piece of salmon instead of a nice long piece which is a cheapercut and more fat. There was also less cheese and less fruit. I don't mind having the tailpiece of salmon, but I want to know an advance and probably get a slight discount. I like to be able to go to a restaurant and order something and know it's going to be exactly the same every time. When you're expecting one thing and get a different it's very disappointed.

So impressive! Every aspect of our experience. I had the Huevos Rancheros. I only adjusted the sunny side up eggs to scrambled well. It came with their house chorizo, black beans, poblano relish, crispy tortillas, cogito cheese, and side of hot sauce. Amazing. I accompanied it with a pomegranate mimosa! It is rustic venue yet stunning. Great service too.

We were excited to visit The Farmer's Rail in Hudson on Saturday. June 22. We were told they don't take reservations but there was no wait so we headed out for the 40 min. drive. When we arrived we were told it would be a 30-45 min. wait. Unfortunately we weren't able to wait and visited another nearby restaurant. We did find the menu at The Farmer's Rail to be high priced with entrees starting at $23 and average of $50. The menu was fairly limited with the majority being "shareables".

I hate to give it one star, but it's just not good. The atmosphere is great, I will give them that. The food is not good at all. Not even basic. Overcooked. Boring. Bland. The fries look like they came from the Giant Eagle freezer department. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. But the food is terrible.

This place was hopping on a Saturday night in Hudson. It's easy to see why. The staff is friendly and the ambience is lively. We had drinks which were 10/10 amazing and a few apps (get the cauliflower!). Our server was great and was fully knowledgeable in regard to the drink menu. Can't wait to go back! (This from a vegetarian, nonetheless)

This place was great! The meat was high quality and the portions were large. The service was zippy and the place had a very homey, and Barney vibe. Overall I was very well pleased with The Farmer's Rail.

Nice spot for a quick lunch, not too busy, got a seat right away. Quick and attentive service, hot food, really nice bourbon collection in the back. The fries were crispy and tasty- just like we like them!
