Quick Tip: Use the Water Department Employee Entrance on the side of the building, let the security guard know you are going to the cafeteria, and walk down the hall to your left. Do not use the Customer Entrance at the front of the building, as it does not connect to the cafeteria.I was passing through town, looking for a break from fast food breakfast. This place was a welcomed change!Tiny little kitchen inside the building cafeteria where they will cook you a fresh meal using any ingredients they have. I ordered a turkey sausage omelette and the gentleman working the counter suggested fresh ingredients he could add, like onions, broccoli, and cheese. There were plenty of tables available when I visited around 10:30am but I imagine it's very busy when the folks in the building have their breaks. As I was leaving, another employee strongly recommended the watermelon lemonade they make. (Next time)I took my meal outside. There is a tiny park between the building and the hotel next door, with a plaque that describes the water crib in the lake that brings drinking water to the city. (There's no seating but you can stand along the back wall of the park area and look out onto the lake.)The only negative was that my omelette was quite greasy. I liked it and I was definitely in the mood for that kind of breakfast but it was still a little bit heavy.Overall, the food was good, the employees were friendly and accommodating, and the novelty of visiting someone else's work cafeteria was fun.I would definitely return.

In town on business and my friend Melanie owns a restaurant out here so how can I NOT go pay a visit to support her cafe! So here's how it went! (Very unbiased opinion.)Atmosphere/Appearance: Though a bit hard to find, all you have to do is ask the people inside the lobby or wherever because well, everyone knows of The Break Room Cafe. This isn't really the kind of place that's advertised with a huge sign out front or anywhere for that matter, but it's kind of a privilege to work in the building where this gem lies just downstairs on the first floor. Once inside the bright yellow and orange paint gives an energetic feel as you watch the 2 chefs behind the counter making everything from scratch. You can smell the goodness from the kitchen practically all over the building.Service: There is no table service here so you just walk up to the counter and talk directly to the people who are running the whole joint! They're great conversationalists and will keep you entertained as they whip up something special for you.Food: LAWD. Let me tell you about this Carrot Cake Oatmeal. My goodness. It was so GOOD. It was sweet with a great consistently and blended really well with the natural flavors of the oats. The Layered Shrimp & Grits was just as good. The hearty grits went so well with the salty shrimp, cheese, chives and... BACON. The cup looked small, but it was SO FILLING. I loved it, but I know if I ate too much of it I'd be in trouble. Lol. I'd love to come back some day and try the rest of the menu!Value: Pretty freaking good. This isn't a 5-star place designed around the service and experience. This is a place built from the ground up designed to wow you with the food and food alone. Check out my pictures for the menu prices, but I do remember my Layered Shrimp & Grits being $9.00. It was a super good value for SHRIMP and the portion I got. Remember me saying how full I was?In conclusion I loved this place and will certainly seek it out whenever I'm in town. I want to try the entire menu and I hope they expand soon! I've love to see what else these talented chefs can do!

My coworkers discovered this place a couple of weeks ago. I finally tried it today and I must say, I'll be back. The name itself is super cute and clever so that sparked my interest initially. It is located inside the Carl B. Stokes building. If entering from the side front entrance, make a left when you see the security desk. Keep walking toward the cafeteria signs, and it will be on the right. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Everything is made fresh with the exception of the baked goods. I strongly recommend calling ahead. Allow a good 15 - 20 mins before you'll reach hangry levels if ordering during prime lunch time hours. The menu posted online is actually an older one. Additions have been made. I actually wanted the shrimp polenta, which I did not see on the new menu. They were able to make it for me anyway. Talk about aiming to please. It was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I wish I had a pic, but it was so good the bowl was empty before I thought to take one... Fail I have provided some photos of the newer menu from their social media. Check this place out next time you're in the area.

A bit difficult to find but once we got there the service was outstanding. Food was outstanding. They went above and beyond to provide us vegan options and even recommended spots outside of town. Not a fancy place, just your typical company "break room cafe" with super nice people offering great food.
