Sumo Boy Sushi and Teriyaki House

Love coming here years before Covid. The atmosphere is amazing and truly a one of a kind place in Mentor. I wish they would open the dining room again soon. The food is great and everyone is always friendly even with take out

I wanted to like this place... first off, the table blocking the door.. what the heck?! Not inviting at all. Ordered a $15 sushi roll, it was 4 pieces. Did I only get half? The teriyaki chicken was super chewy and had a horrible texture. The sauce is salty. The mushroom soup has no flavor at all... it's a no for me.

Disappointed this visit granted it's been awhile since I've gone anywhere it's safe to say we are very much post covid and times should have started to change by now unfortunately sumo boy hasn't caught up with that yet.Im not taking stars away but will affect if I visit again.Dining rooms closed so for a teriyaki and sushi House makes enjoying this experience very much less.Also wanted to have the Japanese apple pie roll and because of covid or whatever I guess it's not available so didn't even bother with sushi seems like a waste to not sit down and eat. Again not taking stars just highly disappointed

I recently moved from South Florida to Ohio, and finding a good affordable sushi place was definitely a task. I have ordered from this establishment twice and they have not disappointed. The Sumo Box is definitely filling and their rolls are tasty as well. I'm so glad I came across this place!

Ordered the Shaggy Dog Roll (shrimp tempura and spicy crab salad) and was not impressed based on the cost. The crab salad on top was complete mush - didn't even resemble crab at all. Also ordered the Seaweed Salad and it was placed upon cut up romaine - which made it appear plentiful, but was very skimpy once you removed the lettuce. I would not order from here again ... wasn't impressed.

Consistently good. Although the full service restaurant hasn't returned, the carry out seems to work out just fine. They are friendly and pleasant to talk with. The sushi is fresh, varied, and pretty straight forward. I usually order at least 2x a month. I think Sumo Boy has been around longer than some of the others in the area and has never disappointed.

UPDATE 2022... This Still is my Favorite 'Japanese Style' food! Sushi (Appetizers), Sashimi (Raw Fish), Entrees (Especially the 'Tokyo Chicken') and Specials! Sushi To Go! Highest quality and great presentation. Beer and Saki also! It doesn't get better than this! Can't wait for the "Covid-Phobia" to end so I can take my Chopsticks in and sit at their Bar or Table!!

I was quite happy with my salmon teriyaki, shrimp dumpling dinner for $13! Nice sized piece of non-fishy salmon. I'll definitely return.

Ordered take out since the dining room is closed. I'll put it this way, I've had better maki rolls at the supermarket. Rice was wet, nori was soggy and the fish tasted old. There are better places for sushi in Mentor.
