Cash only, cash only Didn't have a chance to eat. Can't submit my expense into my company when it's cash only. No tip, no sale, no turnover in product.Had some great Brats on hard rolls just a few spots away. They take credit cards.

I first visited West Side Market back in 2015. Those were the days - the jam packed produce arcade and the bustling of people both tourists and locals alike were really a sight to behold. One of the things I put on my bucket list was to get a gyro from Steve's Gyros, but the shop was always quite busy, with long, snaking lines of people waiting for food. There was so much other food to try in West Side Market that I never wanted to wait in that line. It's been a couple of years since my last visit, but this time I would be undeterred. We got there on a Sunday at about 11AM and luckily there wasn't any line at all! There was only one gyro log cooking in the rotisserie (they have 3 total vertical rotisseries, so I guess they do cook quite a bit on busy days). The cook takes an electric knife and shaves off pieces into a metal tray occasionally. She uses the cut meat (weighing it in a container to make sure the ratios are perfect) and starts constructing the sandwich. Gyro sandwich ($13) - The base is a warmed up Greek pita, graced with a bit of lettuce, tomato, and onion to add freshness, a tangy yogurty tzatziki spooned on top, and finally a massive pile of meat. The vegetables are standard food service and help act as a barrier between the tzatziki and the bread, allowing you more time before the pita gets soggy. The sandwich is wrapped in two pieces of aluminum foil, but neither of them completely cover the sandwich. As you take off the top layer, you're immediately confronted with a huge pile of gyro meat. The shop has a container of plastic forks, which you can use skim off slices of meat before they start falling all over the floor. The meat doesn't really have any crisp anywhere, but the portion that faces the heating element develops a bit of a caramelized exterior that's slightly dryer and tougher compared to more more tender interior meat. The meat itself is seasoned well, less salty than other places and there's fennel seeds and other herbs and spices to make it fragrant. There is a good mixture of slices and chunks to make an interesting bite with different textures. They add so much meat that the gyro as a whole is much wider than the width of the widest part of my arm. To be honest, I find that amount of meat to be a little too excessive - there's enough to probably make 3 or 4 gyros, which might be why they also offer an option to order extra bread and sauce on the side. I shudder to think about how much meat is included in the jumbo version of the sandwich ($16). For me, this is more of a 3.5/5 type of sandwich, which I will round up. (4/5)I'm not a huge fan of having that much meat in a sandwich - it makes everything really unbalanced. Then again, I guess that's the selling point of Steve's Gyros so if you like meat, this place certainly gives you your money's worth.

I can't go to the west side market and not get my favorite gyro in the city. 5th or 6th time here from Pittsburgh and the most memorable to date. The meat was more in chunks than slices which I enjoyed a ton. Flavorful, tender, and excellent tzatziki

Anytime I go I'm satisfied. The meat is cooked and sliced to my liking. Now I believe they have beef and lamb but not sure. I get the jumbo which is extra meat. That will last me all day lunch and dinner literally. Overall you get your money worth easily.

Regular gyro fills 1.2 servings. Jumbo fills 1.5 servings, assuming an average male serving is 1.0 and female is 0.8

Gotta love a classic... I don't think it gets better than Steve's Gyros period. West side market has been there forever and Steve's has to be a huge part of that history. I got a huge gyro and a beverage then proceed to head to the loft seating area overlooking the entire market. It was love at first bite. I was glad to order extra Tzatziki sauce with it's creamy and garlicky bite. To say this sandwich (Yes a gyro is a sandwich) was huge was an understatement. I have an unusually large appetite and even I found it difficult to finish one by myself. It was a labor of love if I say so myself. The meat was spiced and cooked perfectly and when covered in sauce and fresh veggies in between such great pita it has to be perfection. Prices were good for what you get, service was good (you will wait in line, but it's so worth it) definitely a must have when visiting the West side market, Aloha

I heard about this place many years ago. Half the time Steve? wasn't at the stand. He'd be off talking to someone. Back then I didn't think that the Gyros were anything special. Well, all the stands I liked back then have gone belly up. The prices are quite high & it's cash only. I got a jumbo with extra sauce last week.$18. It was pretty good. Thick chunks of meat grilled till crispy. Delicious ! The sauce is unique compared to the other Gyro stands. It's GOOD! It'll cost ya, but it's one tasty Gyro.
