Just hit this place last weekend. The Pinot Noir Reserve, although pricey, is very good. The Chardonnay Cuvee is also tasty. Steel not oak, a little buttery, but also a little hot. Not bad for Ohio wines though. The location, and the place for that matter, is pretty rustic. The woods are close by in the back. The wine bar is small and can get quite crowded. Behind the wine bar are tables where you can enjoy a glass or bottle. I've been here three times and have had the same person at the wine bar each time. She's very nice and tries very hard to help with the wines. I was trashing one of the other area wineries in discussing her wines, which I believe contributed to a 5% discount on 6 bottles (not a standard practice) and no sales tax. It probably didn't hurt that I bought a couple of the Reserves. So on customer service alone, this place is a winner. As a bonus, they participate in the Ice Wine Festival every March (two weekends, usually the first two). They have very good Ice Wine, but it is a bit more expensive than South River Winery's. Definitely want to include this place on the circuit through the Grand River Valley.

I am giving a 2 just because the wine was very good, but unfortunately we had an extremely unpleasant interaction with the staff. Our group of 4 were the ONLY guests in the entire place. We ordered a bottle of wine and went out to the patio to enjoy the afternoon & vineyard view. When leaving, we went inside to compliment the owners on their excellent wine. There were several people behind the counter (still no other guests anywhere) and one man sitting on the counter. The man (who I'm assuming was the owner) looked at us and asked where our wine glasses were and demanded that we go back outside to retrieve them because "they didn't have any staff to bus the tables." We apologized and went back outside to BUS OUR OWN table and the man then had the nerve to make another sarcastic comment to my husband. Absolutely unacceptably RUDE! Sad because their wine is delicious, but I will never be returning to this establishment.

A group of friends and I went on the ice wine festival tour which was great , all of the wineries were wonderful , with the exception of this one !! First off first thing thru the door this place smells of mold and mildew so bad I couldn't even stay inside . But while I was trying to wait with my friends so they could get a sample ( I didn't want anything from a place that smells like this ). The staff was so rude and unprofessional it wasn't even funny. I eventually had to go outside I couldn't take the smell a few of my friend s also had to go outside due to the smell . This place is unremarkable so please do not waste your time or your money !! If I could leave zero stars I would but you can't !

The wine, especially the dry red wine, was good if not overpriced. The owner is a jerk.My sister and I went out on the porch to sit in the sunshine and she tried to open up the umbrella set up for shade. The owner yelled at her from the inside and then came out to chastise her for daring to open it, telling her that it was broken and that it was not opened "for a good reason". We went inside to finish our wine and not 10 minutes later, a couple, who obviously knew the owner, went out to our seats and he very courteously opened up the umbrella for them. Before we left, we let the owner's wife know that her husband was a complete jerk and she apologized. If he thinks that I am wrong, I invite him to talk to me face-to-face at a time of his choosing. I would be more than happy to oblige. Jerry Mollis

We enjoyed the five wineries at the Ice Wine Festival today and St. Joseph Vineyards won our prize for the best customer service. The owner was greeting everyone at the door and was very friendly and generous. All of the employees were kind as well, even giving my daughter a cookie. And the ice wine was delicious! They made a great impression on us and we will be back! Thanks! :-)

Been to several of the wineries in the area over the past several years and this is one of the 3-4 wineries best in terms of sheer quality of their wines. They make some EXCELLENT Pinot Noir (2 styles) as well as Cabernet and Merlot. These folks know what they're doing in both the vineyard as well as in the winery: I have a brother who's a winegrower and speaks highly of these folks. They have 2 tasting rooms: one on Rt. 528 about 2-3 miles south of I-90 and one on Rt. 307 about 1 mile east of Rt. 528, with the latter one being much bigger. Be sure to put this place and Harpersfield on your list of wineries to tour if you're doing the winery tour for sheer quality of vinifera wines.
