Wow. For some dumb reason, I listened to some criticism about this place from neighbors, and now I am angry at myself for believing them. This place is a gem. Beautiful decor, calm, vibe, great artwork, so you feel good just walking in.Then there are the treats. I had a hard time choosing because every pastry was appealing but landed on the pistachio financier. OMG. I can't wait to go back to have soup or quiche or a sandwich. And I'm pretty sure this might become my go to place for reading or working.Welcome to Lee Road, Sophie, I'm so so sorry it took me so long to give you a try.

I visited for the first time in early June 2024. Service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is warm and inviting. It's bright inside and very clean. It is in a bigger space for a bakery/cafe.I ordered:1) Spring Onion Spiral ($5.75) - leeks, scallions, herbs, and Gruyère cheese - I really couldn't eat the cheese because I don't like cheese and I forgot that this had cheese in it. Besides the cheese in the center, this is a tasty savoury pastry.2) Financier ($2.75) - pistachio and cherry flavour. This is a small cake shaped in a rectangle. It was absolutely delicious.I will definitely return to try something on their lunch menu and to get another pastry.****GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024- 51/150 total reviews in 2024- 701 total overall Yelp reviews- Reviewed on 5 July 2024

Lovely Cleveland Heights Café.Warm and welcoming atmosphere, with large selection of gourmet French pastries! We enjoyed a honey rose latte and sourdough rye, chocolate chip cookie. Lunch specials also look delicious and I can't wait to come back to try them

I thought the food here was all pretty good, unfortunately, I just didn't get to try some of the things that I would've liked to drive because when I arrived around 10 AM much of their stuff was sold out. I'd like to come back here and give it another shot. The food is a little expensive, especially for local Cleveland prices, but it's pretty healthy. It's generous portions, and if you're in the mood for it, it will definitely satisfy. I really enjoyed my cinnamon coffee drink. I don't think I would come here to study because it is rather busy but it's a nice place to catch up with friends over breakfast

Needed to grab a quick snack, so I popped into Sophie for a pastry. I forget the exact name, but I chose something savory featuring onions. I asked that they warm it and they did with no problem. It tasted fresh and buttery. I plan to stop in again soon to try a latte and dessert.

There are so many great and thorough reviews here for this brilliant sorta new business, that I am going to keep mine short. First of all, how awesome is it that a high-end French bakery opened in my neighborhood? I think I found my new place to bring my computer and work at. There are about a half dozen tables which were mostly full when I came in at around 2pm on a Wednesday. That's a great sign. Most of the people had multiple dishes and drinks as well. This bakery is at an awesome location near the Lee Road library in Cleveland Heights. It is only a 3 minute walk from the library.I only had the calorie budget for one quintessential baked good and landed on the pain au chocolat with the most BEAUTIFUL lamination! I made it a priority to complement the pastry chef who made the baked goods that day. It tasted fantastic as well - it was probably the best pain au chocolat I've ever had. The crust had a sweet, sugary flavor I wasn't used to instead of a more butter-y focused flavor. It definitely made me slow down and appreciate each unique bite. I also bought a little locally made book that has lists of must-try Cleveland restaurants. There are lots of little gifts like this available to purchase as well as tasty baked goods and a small selection of lunch foods. My wallet and my belt might restrict me from eating here often. The prices and calorie counts are definitely "high-end!"

In town for the week. Due to the hours and days that are open I wasn't sure we would make it in. I was so thrilled to make it in on our last day. I love French Pastries. The selection was much more limited than what I am used to. Everything looked delicious. Basque Cheesecake, 3 different flavors of Financiers, Mousse, Panna Cotta, Pistachio Flan that looked delicious. If I could have pistachios I would have ordered it. Various Croissant, from savory to sweet. There were beautiful Quiches. Which I love, however; due to my allergies I couldn't order. Everything looked well maintained, clean and organized. We had decided on a few items. A lot of things we wanted were already sold out. I ordered the Kouign Sophie, it was a Chai flavor. It was delectable. We went back and ordered a second before we left. The outside of the pastry was perfectly sweetened. The inside had a perfect texture and was beautifully flavored. One of the best pastries I've eaten while on this tripWe also ordered an Almond Croissant. One of my long time favorites. The flavor was wonderful from what I could taste of it. I was literally trying to break pieces off of it just to try to taste it. If a pastry is that hard/stale maybe reconsider keeping it in the window and selling it. At a place such as this, I would think that they have great passion and respect for the pastries they are making and for their customers. It was the worst and hardest I've ever encountered. Even after a couple of days of having one at home I have not experienced this. There was not a soft spot anywhere. My husband inquired about it when he went to order the other Kouign Sophie and was simply told it was the last one. Without anything else being said. We ended up throwing it away and wasting money. My rating of three stars was based on service. We both left feeling that we probably would not return. Everyone was very impersonal. We were not greeted when we walked in or offered assistance at any time during our visit. When someone finally came to the register we had to initiate ordering. We felt very unwelcome and it was a bit shocking after reading so many great reviews. Hoping it was just a bad day and that this doesn't represent their normal business practice.

French patisserie in Cleveland, YES!I finally got a chance to stop by when they were open and I may have gone a bit overboard. No regrets.Basque Cheesecake: light in flavor, not what you usually picture when you picture cheesecakes but tasty.Black Sesame Raspberry Danish: one of my favorites, lovely black sesame center with a tangy and fruity raspberry cream(?) on topLavender Berry Financier: my other favorite, most and sweet but not sickeningly sweet Pistachio Cherry Panna Cotta: lovely smooth texture and well balanced tasteCitron Tart: light, fluffy and lemon-yOverall, great experience and I'm excited to try more things, they do seem to also change things annually. They do have an entire food menu.

I have been trying to give Sophie La Gourmande a try since they started previews, unfortunately my days off are Mondays and Tuesdays and I work 10 to 6, so I could never make it when they are open. So when I go off work early on a Thursday I figured I would stop on my way home.Located at Cedar-Lee SLG is a beautiful store, when you walk in the kitchen, display cases and service counter glisten to your left, there is a sparkling white seating area on the right which is warmed by the brick wall and colorful art. The atmosphere is welcoming and modern, inviting you to enjoy the treats that are available. Most of the menu is on display in the display cases with both sweet and savory offerings. I was looking for a dessert to take home and the choice was difficult since everything looked outstanding. I ended up ordering the Pumpkin Pecan Torte, but could have easily gone for the cheesecake or any of the chocolate items. The slice of cake was nicely packed up in a cube box like a present to be opened.Once home I enjoyed the light, flavorful torte. The flavors were complimentary, nicely balanced with different textures. This is a sweet dessert that you want to take your time eating so that you can savor every bite. I look forward to getting back to Sophie La Gourmande to try other items. This is a great place to grab a light lunch or to get a premium dessert. A excellent addition to the Cleveland Heights culinary scene, now if they were only open when I am not working.

La vie est belle when you get to eat at Sophie La Gourmande.I've been here a handful of times now - mostly to seek out the seasonal treats that come into rotation. The first tie I went, Instagram had pulled me in because I saw their french onion soup danish and I knew I couldn't miss it. It did not disappoint - and probably is still my favorite thing I've had here.Other things that top the list: the elote corn danish from the summer, the current poached pear and almost tartlette for the fall. I keep being beckoned by the delicious panna cotta that they have as well, but I've yet to take the plunge. My husband loves their chocolate chip rye cookie - though I could leave it - but he raves about it and is constantly trying to find ways to replicate the recipe at home. Can't wait to see what Sophia La Gourmande continues producing in the years to come.
