Went here for a Friday Lenten fish fry and loved. That is until I heard the waitress describe the fish as farm raised white fish. I've never heard of such a thing and truly hope she misspoke. Sides of mac and cheese, and Slovenian home fries (smashed breakfast potatoes with seasoning) did not disappoint. Neither did Slovenian beers.

This was a surprisingly cool place in an ethnic-retro sort of way. I've driven past there a million times en route to the Beachland, always slowing down before realizing that it was not, in fact, the Beachland.I went to a wedding party there. The food was good, the service was friendly and the atmosphere reminded me of those old-timey places that my grandparents used to go for their friends anniversary parties.THE FOOD: Skin-on mashed potatoes, pork chops, stuffed cabbage, (all good) garlicy and and inconsitantly cooked green beans. The stand out was the table full of old-fashioned ethnic cookies-- nut rolls and the like. It really brought me back. THE SERVICE: Cute old Slovenian ladies and a gentleman. All polite and sweet, just as you'd expect.THE ATMOSPHERE: Sort of like the Beachland, except better maintained. Odd bas relief frescoes of happy Slovenians, a stage with a prosenium, old man bar at the side. It's a fun place for a laid back event.

We ate here Friday March 4,2016 after the "Walk on Waterloo Art Gallery Hop". This was our first time here and we arrived at 7:45pm and they stop serving food at 8pm. Unfortunately for us they were out of fish for "Fish Fry Friday" during Lent. We ordered a dinner to share: Shrimp, pork chop, Slovenian potatoes and rolls for $13.00. The pork chop that I had was lightly breaded and tasty. The Slovenian potatoes were mashed and had good flavor and didn't come with gravy so they were dry. We will try it again at least much earlier arrival.

This place is fantastic. They have weekly (Friday) dinners that are always good. I don't really do fish, but I do eat the fish here (during Lent); the tarter sauce is what makes it to me. Pork chops are good, as well as the sides like Mac & chz. The strudel is homemade and awesome (they actually run out just about every time so get there earlier). All the women who work here are very nice, and do whatever to take care of you.
