Sam Sylks chicken & Fish

This place off Mayfield is quite the dive, lacking air conditioning and holding only a few sad 20oz Crush sodas along with a few cans of Diet Pepsi. But behind the counter, 2-3 employees are busy frying and preparing delicious fish, chicken, and waffles. I ordered a $10 orange roughy sandwich which came with a large freshly fried crispy cornmeal breaded filet between two large soft sub buns with mayo, lettuce, and several large juicy fresh chunks of tomato. The sandwich swallowed the fish but taken off in little chunks it was quite enjoyable. The fries that it came with were unremarkable.The real star of the show was the 2 perch and waffle combo. The waffle was large, dense, and had a brown color with deep cinnamon aroma. It was great but definitely the type of waffle not to be enjoyed cool as it would not hesitate to choke you if a bit dry. The two perch pieces were not large overall but were individually thick, juicy, tender, and absolutely wonderful. The combo came with plenty of syrup, butter, tartar sauce, hot sauce, and cocktail sauce as well. It was way less than 10 bucks and way better than the sandwich in my opinion.They serve every combo of waffles, fried chicken, and perch, tilapia, catfish, whiting, and orange roughy. They also have several desserts to choose from.My only real regret is that they forgot my peach cobbler which was at least $5 and I'm already home now that it is 10:20 p.m. I guess it gives me a reason to go back and try it out for real next time along with the whiting.Be aware that this place is not a fast food joint- it even says so on the sign inside. My not large order took about 25 minutes to finish!

This was my second time coming here. I was satisfied with my order but not overly impressed. My husband got the whiting dinner and I got a chicken dinner. The chicken was fine. The fries are average. The sauce is some sort of twist on ketchup. We called in our order and it was ready when we got there. The Mac and cheese was good but didn't taste fresh. It was really just OK. Only good thing is that they aren't expensive.

I want this to become a 4 or 5 star business. It's possible. It just depends on how important it is to them to fix the issues. Service and consistency are really killing this place. Sometimes, you can get a fresh order of food within the time promised. When that happens, you'll be pleased and have a belly full of some yummy fried fish or chicken. Other times, you'll receive a portion of what you ordered, far past a reasonable wait time and may have to leave some of it uneaten because it's overcooked or tastes like it's been reheated. The good days are great. There is just no way to know if that's what you're getting and, for me, they've been too spotty to expect anything else.

I noticed that Sam Sylks opened a second location on Mayfield in South Euclid so I figured I would give it a try. Located in a free standing building with a small parking lot that used to house a Mr. Hero. When you walk in there is the order counter with the kitchen behind. The menu is a variety of chicken and fish along with sides.Since it was a Tuesday, I figured I would get the Challenge sandwich special which is 2 large fillets of Whiting on a bun with lettuce, tomato, tarter sauce and a side of fries. The portion size was generous, with the Whiting a bit strong in flavor, but with a crispy coating. The bun was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of fish so I ended up taking it apart to eat.The fries were very ordinary frozen french fries, nothing memorable at all. They were unable to provide me with a cup of water, but offered to sell me a bottle of water.I was hoping that Sylks would provide a nice alternative to get some affordable fish nearby, while not horrible I was underwhelmed by the food. Hopefully they will improve as they move forward.

My boyfriend ordered me a LARGE spaghetti and when we went to pick it up, this is what they gave him. I'm pregnant and literally all i've been craving is spaghetti but we paid $7 for this. To top it off it's dry and nasty. This was my first time ever eating at Sam Sylk's and it's going to be the last.

Perch appeared to be either overcooked or reheated! I was told that I would have to save the perch and bring back up there to prove it wasn't ok. Therefore, I ate the fries & coleslaw and will not buy perch from this establishment aga

Okay...so when did Sam Sylks start having the shoe string fries with their dinners. It's been a while since I've ordered and it'll be a while again. Requested my fish to be fried soft...of course it wasn't. The shoe string fries is ridiculous. No bread with dinners. And 2 fork twirls of spaghetti for $4. Requested sauce on fries and chicken...got home and no sauce.

On Friday, I ordered a catfish and chicken wing dinner and Pepsi to be delivered by DoorDash. The young lady delivered the dinner, and to my surprise there was NO CATFISH so I called Sam SYLK and they indicated I would have to call DoorDash they gave me the number to DoorDash I called DoorDash and they indicated that they could either partially refund me or re-send my order I opted for the resending of my order of course because the entire reason that I ordered this cause I wanted the Catfish. I got the little indicator say my order was prepared in on his way and then I get a call fromDoor dash and looks like Sam's Sylk's elects no to re-do my order. So about Sam Sylks they dropped the ball on the order and punish me by not re-making my order, shame on you, SAM SYLK in South Euclid

I ordered a Small Shrimp Dinner and I got home there was no fries. I go back up there in the cold weather for my fries and ask can I be accommodated for returning and traveling in this cold weather for their mistake. The lady shook her head no and I advise I will no longer support the restaurant. I get home and there is hair in my fries. NEVER AGAIN! This was at the Mayfield in South Euclid locatio.

I ordered from them for the first time today. I used Grubhub. My co-worker loves their perch and I recently returned from vacation and decided to give it a try. It was my 1st and last order. The fries were cold and dry and the fish (catfish) was an ample serving size, but almost too crisp. Maybe it was due to the thinness of the filets. The chicken wings were ok. The coleslaw was passable. To make matters worse I added a 7-Eleven stop and received Pepsi instead of the Sprite that I requested. That was a driver error.They offered a discount so I tried them instead of my usual B&M's Restaurant.
