I visited the market again yesterday. It has the greatest choice of quality cold cut meats and cheeses around. You will find the greatest choices in spices and soup starters as well as a huge variety in starters for dips. My husband loves ham salad and has it on a regular basis. He will no longer buy ham salad from any other store or market than plank town Country Market. The largest selection of peanut butter I have ever seen. This is definitely a destination store with its own Restraunt too.

Planktown Country Market is a wonderful Mennonite market in seemingly the "middle of nowhere". It is located on a country road in Shiloh, OH. Every time I am up to see family, I make sure to make at least one trip. The store is rustic and staffed by young Mennonite women who always provide friendly service. Their deli meat and cheese area can be quite busy. I always stop there to get my number before browsing any other part of the store as the wait there can be quite lengthy. They carry a bit of everything - produce, breads, bulk items, eggs, Amish noodles. However, what makes this store extraordinary is the huge variety of deli meats and cheeses. I have never seen anything quite like the selection here and the prices are half what I would pay back in VA. To say I stock up on delicious, uniquely flavored, fresh cheeses when I visit is an understatement! Some of my favorites are smoked bacon cheddar, swiss on rye, green onion cheese, smoked baby swiss and sharp cheddar. It is absolutely overwhelming to try and pick just a few to take home. There are hundreds of options and some are quite creative. The dried spices are another area where this store exceeds expectations. Again, the variety available is not the least bit lacking. The dried/ground spices I have purchased have always been fresh and they last. I purchased a huge container of fresh cracked pepper last year for about $4.50 and it still fresh and aromatic. The same as with the cheeses and deli meats, prices on these tubs of spices are amazingly low.If you ever find yourself on a country road near Shiloh, OH, make a point of finding Planktown Country Market. You will not regret it. I have been visiting for at least 10 years and have never been disappointed.

I went back on the strength of 2009 visits. Its been over 10 years since I been here. As a food blogger you never know how you will be treated. I heard there had been some expansion done and knew the quality of the store before. The staff used to be so friendly and nice. It was small but well lit ten years ago. My trip today was disappointing although it had expanded it didn't seem oddly to reflect with the products. There seems more junk food than bulk food which was oddly placed in the old section of store. I just stumbled upon it by mistake with noone helping at all.The store was dark and dingy! They all laughed and looked at me like I was alien. Surely in ohio you seen an overweight black woman before. Mennonite/amish are religious people surely common courtesy would come on somewhere in weekly sermons. When a girl almost ran me over with a packing cart you'd think she apologize nope just expected me to get out of here way. The meat counter girls had attitudes like I was interrupting their day! The fruit and vegetables were old and moldy not sure why with amish known for fresh vegetables and so close to fields! The checkout lady after few mins had to force a hello. Im convinced I was in a gen z version of children of the corn not a business expecting customers. You'd think spending over 100.00 for overpriced food they'd be friendly nope! I'll stick with the real amish country in walnut creek/Berlin ohio! Atleast they are trained to treat people decent and have fresh food!

Love this store. I live about 25 minutes from Planktown market and I shop here at least every other week. They have a big selection of lunch meats and cheeses at a cheaper price then regular stores. Their spices are definitely cheaper also. I buy their homemade peanut butter and almond butter too. On occasion they have strawberries cheaper then regular stores. And their employees are always helpful and friendly.

I have been disappointed on my last couple of visits as to the poor customer service. On both occasions, several employees were working behind the deli counter, yet only one or two were actually waiting on customers . The employee working the counter called for additional help but was ignored by the other employees, who continued to talk and laugh among themselves....On both visits, there were several customers in line. On my last visit, I ended up leaving without buying anything. Sad to see.
