This location has temporarily closed. They are moving across the street to a larger space in the same plaza as CVS :)

A four star for being one of the very few indian grocers on the east side, with a very nice owner. This is where I get my Family size Paratha packs to pair with a delicious malay curry I make at home. These paratha are textured and flavored very much like the flaky, buttery roti canai. Once in while, I also try my hand with their many spice mixes, the latest of which was for a make it yourself chicken biryani :) Spoiler alert: It tastes better to use the whole packet of spices, but the whole packet ALSO calls for 3 cups of rice, so.. prepare this for a small army. Anyhow they are moving to a new location across the street so keep an eye out with me, and please let me know when I can get Friday samosas again... oh Friday samosas.. I hope 2020 didn't end you.

Great Indian grocery. Much better selection than the other places in our area. Only place I can reliably find the things I need to cook the meals I grew up eating.

I used to live right down the street and would wander in here from time to time. I have never seen the new location, but I have been to MANY ethnic groceries and I've never been in a place where the owner was as helpful and friendly as this place. He even gave me recipes to try to make on my own. I've learned a lot from this little grocery, which you can't usually say about a grocery store. I am looking forward to seeing their new location!!

Stopped in today for a spices. Didn't expect such a selection of Indian foods! The staff was super helpful and happy to help!We got what we wanted and had some fresh samosas for a snack to go. We will be back - in fact, maybe tomorrow we'll go just to support our local businesses in the area!

This little store has a larger selection of Indian staples than all of the Indian supermarkets on Chicago's Devon Street combined. That includes numerous types of legumes, spices, mixes, flours, drinks, fresh veggies, and sauces. I couldn't believe the selection. Lakshmi's has a real bounty of ingredients and prepared foods and everything in between. The place is filled to the rafters, yet it's also clean, tidy, and gives the impression that the stock is replenished frequently. It's warm and fragrant inside, making for a very pleasant shopping trip on a cold winter's day. It's great to have an independent market nearby when the only other option for miles around are chain supermarkets. The prices at Lakshmi are quite reasonable, especially compared to what some of the exact same products are being sold for at the big box stores. Low prices are also a great incentive for trying new products and experimenting in the kitchen. I may have also just picked up the freshest bunch of cilantro I've ever encountered in NEO. This store really gives new life to the possibility of making vegetarian dishes which are interesting and delicious. Besides Indian products, there is a pretty decent selection of foods from east/southeast Asia and the Middle East. I imagine that the owner, whom I'm told is himself a talented cook, has good relationships with some really great importers. Ask him for cooking advice. He has had the store for 15 years and he is very helpful in pairing beans and spices. The other staff are very nice too. The place was quite busy at 5:00 pm on a weekday. I recommend trying the fresh desserts in the fridge by the register. Some are similar to what you might find in restaurants, but these are much more flavorful and delicious. As far as Indian ingredients go, I bet that if something has made its way to the North American continent, then you can find it at Lakshmi's.

Always helpful. Giving me recipes, for things I wanted to make that I had never had, showing me the best things to use, not the most expensive. I miss being in the area all the time but I make a special trip there to replenish my pantry from time to time.

Great selection of all my Indian favorites and super-friendly staff! I liked the old store, but this new location is bright and clean with wider aisles and more shelf space.
