The ambiance of the restaurant was undeniably romantic, with soft lighting and intimate seating that created a perfect setting for an evening out. I decided to indulge in a spicy margarita, expertly crafted, alongside a French 75, which was a delightful blend of gin, lemon, and sparkling wine that danced on my palate. For the main course, I chose the steak tips, which were grilled to perfection--a beautiful medium that practically melted in my mouth. The accompanying broccolini was simply divine, cooked to retain its vibrant green color and boasting just the right amount of crunch, adding a pleasing contrast to the tender meat. I did try the apple crumble for dessert, though it didn't quite meet my expectations; while it was adequately sweet with a buttery crumb topping, it lacked the bold flavors I was hoping for. However, the overall experience was elevated by the fantastic service--attentive and knowledgeable staff who ensured that every aspect of my meal was enjoyable.

First time here and we were immediately greeted with a smile from the hostess as well as an offer to check our coats. We sat upstairs (which I preferred based on appeal) and noticed an expansive and attractive outdoor area to dine during the warm weather months. The lighting was perfect and the soft music really set the tone for the experience ahead. Our waitress was very helpful with answering our questions as well has recommending some of her favorites. We began with an order of Popovers served with strawberry jam and soft butter and Mushroom Tartlet. The popovers were very light, airy, and delicate. Mushroom tartlets had great flavor but the chive overpowered any mushroom flavor. I would order both again.Mussels in a tomato sauce and grilled bread were next. Each mussel tasted fresh and were all open. The bread was a bit too crispy for my liking but the sauce made up for it. The sauce was very garlicky and silky and a perfect way to soften the crispy bread. Don't let the fennel on the menu dissuade you from this dish as my wife and I did not taste any hint of fennel in our sauce.Next were Ricotta Dumplings, Broccolini, and Steak Tips. Ricotta dumplings were served in a pesto sauce that was phenomenal. Perfect ratio of garlic and basil as well as a hint of lemon. The dumplings were great but a little doughy (reminiscent of a gnocchi). Broccolini was served with fig, kumquat, and almonds. The broccolini itself was not a home run until you combined it with the kumquat, fig, and almonds. One of the least favorite dishes was the steak tips. This was served with pearl onion, carrot, and a burgundy jus. Our particular steak was overcooked and underseasoned. Because of this and the minimal amount of sauce, this dish ate drier than you would expect. Baked Alaska was our dessert and this was our least favorite of the evening. The dessert presented well but was underwhelming. Under the mound of whipped cream and ice cream, the cake was somehow dry and crumbly. I would not order this again. Kiln was wonderful and the service was top notch. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu.

Came here for dinner on a Monday with a reservation and it was packed! We were seated promptly at a corner table. My immediate impression was that the tables were quite cramped , with the room appearing as if they tried to fit as many tables as possible. Once seated, our server came by soon after and offered us menus and help with any questions. Very friendly and attentive! The menu was expansive, but I would have to say not as many dishes piqued my interest as did the menus at Doug Katz's other restaurants. We ordered 6 dishes for our party of 2 as per our servers recommendations and left stuffed! The popovers, cabbage rolls, and steak tips were delicious! The fried chicken livers were a bit heavy and overly rich and needed something to refresh the palate a bit more between bites. I also thought the cocktail menu lacked creativity, which I guess is reasonable since the menu seems to be highlighting wines over cocktails. Overall, the dining experience was satisfying and our servers were great! The ambiance was mid, and the menu doesn't beg me to come back too soon.

Fantastic addition to The Van Aken District in Shaker Heights! Love to see a higher end dinging option here! Kiln is a 5 star experience all around. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service and knock out food. We are entirely too much, but absolutely enjoyed all of our choices. Started with the crudité which was flavorful, although perhaps could've been served with some more veggies or naan. My friend loved the Char, while I thought the ribeye was one of the best I've eaten in some time. We then capped off with a huge portion of apple crisp, just like grandma used to make, YUM!

Make a reservation, this place is still new and popular!Nice minimalist classy modern vibes. I love that they have regular tables and also some booth seatings (the booth creates more romantic vibes but also a little bit more casual and comfy which i was a huge fan of).Our absolute favorites were the popovers and mushroom tartlets. The popovers were light and airy and had a good crunch but soft inside. The buttery and jam with it was a perfect bite. Must get. The mushrooms were savory and created a perfect bite with the puff pastry and I could've eaten the whole plate myself! The ricotta dumplings are creative and I enjoy the pine nuts with it, however it really is quite dense. I was good with having tried it but probably won't order again unless I come with a big group. We didn't finish it. The squash could have had a little bit more flavor and I expected it to be more creamy but it was quite stringy which is fine but did surprise me (maybe it included the center piece of the squash) Did not enjoy the baked Alaska dessert but it was the first time I've ever tried one. The cake was rock hard and the flavors didn't seem to mesh well. I was excited to order it because of the pistachios but since the cake is half the dish we could barely eat it.Overall we enjoyed the ambiance and had great service and loved the creative menus. Will definitely come back and reorder some of the same dishes but not all.

Drinks were fantastic. Service was great. Love the vibe in the restaurant. Not too loud. I would have to say the food was good, there were a few dishes I felt were lacking something...just can't put my finger on what. The ricotta dumplings were ok, same with the crispy chicken livers (and i typically love crispy chicken livers...) the spinach salad was simple. The parisian potatoes were lacking on flavor and just on the slightly undercooked side of things....Not bad, but not fantastic. Now, the really good things...(other than the drinks)...the pork chop was excellent!! So were the pop overs, and i could consume those daily. The apple tart tasted freshly made, was very good as well.

This might be my new favorite restaurant in Cleveland. Chef Doug Katz never disappoints and I love how in any of his restaurants, I always see him interacting with customers and that goes a long way. The space is beautiful, upstairs is gorgeous as well, service fantastic, and every single thing we ordered on the menu was absolutely delicious. We ordered the bibb salad, mushroom tartlets, ricotta dumplings, soup bread, pop overs, vegetable tian, steak bites, and Parisienne potatoes and would recommend all of it.

Our first visit to kiln did not disappoint. We had a great table upstairs, the vibe was really nice. We had an attentive server who answered lots of menu questions. The menu has many different choices, almost too many to choose from, with lots of interesting flavors and spice combinations. Four of us shared seven dishes, which was plenty of food for our party. We had one vegetarian in the group, and there were many options that were also enjoyed by the meat eaters.A great addition to the food scene on Cleveland's east side.
