My friend and I decided to go to Hunan Saturday night for dinner simply due to the nostalgia. This used to be such a standout elegant restaurant on Coventry in the 90s/early 2000s. Unfortunately, it's not the same quality or experience as it used to be but we still enjoyed our dinner. Also, the excellent service is still the same. I ordered Shrimp Chips, Shrimp Fried Egg Roll, and the Singapore Chow Mei Fun. All dishes were delicious and the portions were big enough for leftovers the next day.

I came back to Cleveland heights after a long break (10+ years) and was so excited to introduce my husband and and two kids to my favorite Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately it was the Worst meal I've had in years Food was not cooked well. The orange chicken, rice, potstickers were good. Crab Rangoon ok. Broccoli beef, cashew chicken and walnut shrimp all had the same sauce. Veggies were tasteless or tasted bad. Even the spring roll wService was good. I was sad and disappointed, especially after spending $85 before tip.

Horrible. Ordered pad thai and it was red from (apparently ketchup). Incredibly bland. Empress chicken was horrible too. This wasn't Asian food. It was nursing home quality. No spices (and I'm not just talking about heat).The empress chi ken also gave me food poisoning. I didn't know the original owners had sold the place.

The food was not cheap at $30 for two entrees. The portions were large however. The ham egg foo young had a thick gravy that wasn't bad. The egg foo young was super hot which made it better, but it was still extremely average without a remarkable flavor. Just sort of meh. The honey walnut shrimp was okay. It was a sweet nectar thick sauce with probably 8-10 small shrimp and a bunch of cheap filler veggies like water chestnut and snow peas and crinkle cut carrots. Meh.

Great restaurant in the heart of Coventry. The menus great but we go fir the best lo menu in the area. (We order pork lo mein.) it's good enough to pull us there when visiting one of the downtown museums. Or just a lo mein road trip. The best. Other favorites include egg foo yung, orange beef and hot & sour soup. Staff is friendly and food is quickly prepared. Just a nice place for a lunch on a weekend.

We had looked forward to lunch at Hunan Coventry yesterday but we left disappointed and wondering what exactly we had just eaten. The Beef with Peapods as well as the Kung Pao Shrimp were both served in a thick dark sauce that at best can be described as very "sour". The green peppers in the Kung Pao were simply raw - not even slightly stir-fried. The filling in Spring Roll and Shrimp Eggroll both had a pasty bland texture we guessed was some sort of filler. We ate only a few bites except for the fried rice which was good, and had a slightly smoky flavor. Even allowing for creative cooking, the food was unpalatable. We will never go back. What happened? Their food used to be so good!

Not what it used to be. Now poor quality. We lived on the east side and worked in Cleveland for nearly 30 years. This used to be absolutely the best Chinese food around. Unfortunately, no longer.We now live out of town and were in town on personal business this past Friday. Ordered our usual - Orange beef, Crab Rangoon & pork pot stickers. The orange beef had absolutely no spice or heat, and the serving that used to be enough for 3 servings was barely enough for two. The Crab Rangoon had a different/odd taste than it used to - not bad, but not as rich and flavorful and the sauce for it was very watery. The Pot Stickers may have been the biggest disappointment - literally mostly filler with practically zero pork.After not having eaten at Hunam Coventry for a several years we were so looking forward to the meal and couldn't have been more disappointed. Not sure what's happened. Definitely not worth the trip and won't be visiting again.

Lunch: Hot and Sour soup, Twice-cooked pork, and a glass of Shiraz- pretty terrible. The first time I couldn't;t finish my little glass of wine in my life. Terrible taste. The Twice cooked pork was extremely salty and the meat was tough.I would recommend making another selection to get Chinese food.

I never get disappointed when eating at Hunan Coventry. I moved out of town 10 years ago and I returned to Cleveland Heights for a short visit today. I had Mu Chu Chicken and my friend a vegetable dish - Tofu with Cashew,. We both loved our food: great lunch and large portion! Service was professional and fast and the waitress was kind and attentive.I will return to eat here if an opportunity rises.
