Hometown Bakery

Hometown Bakery is a lovely addition to Vermilion. This area truly needed a local bakery! Its located inside a plaza and is definitely a strip mall secret. Hometown Bakery serves everything from granola and muffins to cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, zucchini bread, and everything in-between.We ordered a custom cake for a birthday and it was luxe, delicious and a big hit. Keep in mind, this is a small town, so the owner does not yet have a menu of her custom cakes or accompanying pictures. The ordering process was a little stressful because of this (I appreciate photos because it helps me understand what I'm ordering). Be prepared to be patient if you place a custom order. Hopefully she creates a menu with photos soon!I totally get the vibe that Hometown Bakery might sell out early, so be sure to plan it at the beginning of your day. There's a few tables and chairs inside as well as a small coffee menu. The owner is very talented and takes a lot of pride in her work. I heard they may even offer classes soon, which would be a fabulous addition for the area! The zucchini and pumpkin bread here are absolutely fabulous. Don't overlook this made-with-love bakery!

I've driven by here for the past two years. This day was different, my car decided it had to pull in a parking spot, the door opened and I was called into their front door. Don't let the store frontage fool you. Once I walked in, the store went wide and deep where I found a treasure trove of homemade goodies that were as much eye candy as they were tough decisions. The choices were too numerous count. It being right before the 4th of July, I decided on their amazingly beautiful apple pie, four lemon bars and a half dozen cookies. I spoke to the owner, discovering they make their consumables daily. I asked what they are known for, she replied their chicken salad and cookies. While I didn't buy the chicken salad this day, I'll be sure to have some soon. When I got home, we had company coming over for dinner. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a slice of apple pie and the lemon bars, which had the right amount and balance of sweet/citrus zing. Something else happened, somehow, when I returned home, I opened the box of cookies. I got to thinking, I swear I bought six cookies but now there were only four. Lesson learned, beware of the cookie gremlins in your car.

Delightful quality baked goods and service. I've ordered cakes and my guests rave about how moist and delicious they are. Cinnamon bun Saturdays are the best!! The chickens salad is always fresh and creamy, very flavorful. Highly recommend; I tell my friends they Need to try this place! Peggy

Met a group of friends here for lunch & the salads were delicious! With so many great things to choose from for dessert, we settled on pumpkin bars, cupcakes, & one of the best in the area chocolate chip cookies to go!
