Located just off of Rt. 77 on John Brown Road in the small Village of New Richmond, lies the Historic John Brown Tannery Site and Museum. The museum is currently closed for renovations, but the tannery is open for public viewing. John Brown, the famous abolitionist, used to live and work here in this village from 1825-1835. The existing remains of his tannery are now nothing more than a one story stone foundation that you are free to walk around and explore. Several educational tablets are located on the grounds showing you photos of John Brown, the tannery itself, and provide some historic context about this interesting man. Worth stopping to see if you are in the area.

Little historical site really close to home. Beautiful stone architecture. Gives you a small picture of what it was like in such a revolutionary man.
