The real draw for us here is the Crystal Cave. It's really fascinating to stand inside one of the largest geodes in the world and examine the celestite crystals. It also has a neat history - giving tours of the Crystal Cave helped keep the winery afloat during Prohibition. I wouldn't mind a few extra minutes down there, but we enjoyed our visit. When we came back up, we headed out on the tour of the winery. The process is described, and they go through all of their wines and discuss the flavors/notes. Both tour guides were very personable and informative on their respective tours. At the end, you are taken into the tasting room, where, if you have purchased the tours, includes a sample of either wine or grape juice of your choice. There is also a small gift shop onsite.

This place had such great wine! Two of the workers were very quick to help us and give recommendations, but one of them seemed to want nothing to do with us as far as customer service goes. All of the wine was great though, we tried 3 of the sweet wines, two of the dry, and one of the medium. The sweet wines were the best in my opinion! The place itself was gorgeous, especially the garden!

The customer service was great! And I bought a Put-in-bay winery shirt for only $5! Love this! The ambiance was nice, and I felt welcomed there overall.

Take the tour!If this is your first time to the island or winery I highly recommend taking the tour. The tour includes the crystal cave, winery tour and glass of wine for a very reasonable price. The tour is even kid friendly with an offering of grape juice and a lower price. Tickets can be purchased inside the gift shop. We were able to buy tickets and start a tour within 15 minutes. The first part of the tour consists of the crystal cave. Basically like walking into a giant geode. My kids loved this and it was very cool to see up close. Then you will be instructed to wait by the winery tour door and a few minutes later your guide will take you through the manufacturing part of the process and discuss the history of the winery and how the wine is made. Lots of opportunities for questions. Lastly you get to choose a glass of wine of your choice. They have a great outdoor area with a patio and picnic tables. It was calm and peaceful. It was a great experience and we felt it was well worth the money.

I have to admit I was disappointed in this winery. The facilities are dated and the decor was not very modern. It doesn't have a typical winery feel. Things were some simple and primitive that we didn't stay long to enjoy the wine.Apparently the state of Ohio says that Heineman needs to charge $3.50 for a sample. Unfortunately you don't know which wine to pick since you have no idea how the wine tastes. Therefore you just guess and hope the wine is digestible. On this occasion we picked the Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc to try. I have to admit that these wines were not very tasty or appealing to my palette. The wines tasted very plain and a "waxy" after taste.

We loved the longevity and history of this family-owned winery. The Crystal Cave is cute, but it's really small. Don't expect a grand tour - but worth checking out. The wine is sweet. The grounds could use some updating, but the people were nice.

Wonderful experience at the winery and caves. The price per person was $12, which included a cave tour, a wine tour, and a glass of wine or grape juice. The staff was friendly and courteous.

For $11 this is quite a stop! The crystal cave tour is interesting & really informative. It is definitely something we had not experienced before. The winery tour was more thorough than expected ... it's a working winery so we say the process in action - very cool! All grapes come from within 10 miles of Lake Erie!It was very enjoyable and frankly a great deal for the experience.

This is a must see on a trip to Put in Bay, Fascinating tour of the cave which is actually a giant geode found years ago when digging for a well. It had amazing crystals covering the walls. The "cave" was large enough for around 30 people to gather. I wish my rock hound Dad could have seen this! The winery was like most and the wine good. We met some locals who were so friendly. The grounds of the winery was a pleasant setting to enjoy a bottle.

Went on a tour of the Cave and the Winery. The cheese plate was good and all of the employees were Great! If you are going to buy some crystals or fossils, the prices are much here and a better selection than the shop across the street. Jacob did an Awesome job of packaging our purchases for the ride home!
