Named for the Dominican coastal region located in the northern part of the island, El Cibao is unapologetically true to its culinary roots. This small establishment is conveniently situated along W 117th St and is easy to spot from the street. One day I was in the area and spontaneously decided to try it. The menu consists of many common Dominican dishes, such as mangu and other staples consisting of chicken and beef. The interior has ample seating with booths and tables. Upon walking in I went directly to the counter and placed my to go order, since I was a bit short on time but nonetheless in the mood for some beans and rice. There were 3-4 tables occupied and it seemed steady. I spoke with a young lady who appeared from the back - much to my delight - who took my info and advised me that it would be around 15 minutes. I did in fact get beans and rice but also a side of platanos maduros. After waiting in my vehicle for a bit, I returned to pick up my order. The stewed beans were savory and paired well with the rice. The platanos were excellent and prepared with just the right amount of oil, not overly saturated. You don't have to travel to Santo Domingo or Cotui to get Domincan food, you can go to El Cibao!

A new Dominican spot on W 117th St! Great food and pretty good prices.I had the Guisado de Cerdo, a very flavorful stewed pork and rice dish with a side of bean soup. $8.50 lunch price.Reminded me a bit of a curry, though it wasn't hot spicy, just flavorful. The pork wasn't too fatty, but it had a bit to make it not so dry and interesting. I like how their menu changes daily - no surprise that my food came out fresh and fast as they will have the set menu on each day already cooking in the morning. It's a big spot for the concept. Dining room is huge and a bit empty at the moment. It has 20 tables and there's still a lot of empty space. It's a small mom and pop kinda place but the interior doesn't feel like it. Halloran Park across the street is a bomb spot to take the food and eat when the weather is nice.

Reminiscent of my elders and some good quality Dominican cooking. If you're looking for a full belly, comfort food and authenticity, on a budget, come here. Interior needs a face lift as it's dated, yet it was clean and they appeared to have a section for diners before opening up another section. It was quiet, so service was reasonably quick. No Complaints on service.

The place is okay on the inside but the waitress that was up in the front was very rude to me. It seems like the kind of spot that if you're not Spanish they're not very welcoming. I wouldn't suggest going there to anyone.
