I was looking for theaters to visit besides the usual playhouse square shows and stumbled upon Dobama. Totally didn't know about it despite living on the east side for three years. Located on Lee and actually seems to share a building with the public library. Got student tickets to Land of Oz for a show on a Friday. I bought them in person and the lady at the counter was super helpful and let me know about affordable ways to see a show like the "pay what you can" prices an hour before the show- which I definitely recommend for any weekday showings. You can also volunteer as an usher and see the show for free. Basically all seats offer a really good view because it is a smaller theater. But wow!!!! So much talent in one show. The actors were all amazing singers and dancers. It was pretty hilarious too. Very cool and creative set and costume design. My expectations were not the highest- I was a little unsure of seeing a show in a cleveland suburb, but I was absolutely blown away. They also serve reasonably prices drinks at the bar and even had a few special cocktails based on the theme of the show which was cute.

This is a really cute little theater that is a well kept secret, very easily overlooked. I know I had never heard of it until Yelp's ticket giveaway. It's actually in the same building as the town's library and only has 5 rows, so all seats offer a good view. The play we saw was wonderful, living up to the expectations of an Obie Award winner. Tickets are inexpensive, and the shows only play for about a month each. I think most of those in attendance have been longtime membership holders and go often. It's time that the theater reach other demographics, and I would strongly recommend going based on my experience!Bonus: you get 10% off your bill at the wine bar Taste across the street with a same day ticket, but the discount does not apply to happy hour.

Dobama is one of the edgiest theatres in Cleveland. They choose work that challenges both their casts and their audiences, as well as the community at large. The facility itself is located downstairs in the library, but it is accessible via elevator. They feature fun installations like a white board where you can answer thought provoking questions or polls, and a well stocked concession stand.

I visited the Dobama Theatre thanks to Yelp for the first time last night to see the show Appropriate. My friend and I had such an AWESOME experience. The script was hilarious and filled with suspense and I cant say enough great things about the acting, Outstanding! I was really impressed. It is a small intimate theatre so no seat is a bad one and you are right up close to all the action even in the last row. There is even a bar (serving wine, beer & themed cocktails) and a snack shop. The theatre is located right on Lee rd. next to the Library and has tons of FREE PARKING and lots of local bars, restaurants and coffee shops to check out. We made a whole night out of the activity.I highly recommend for a family night out, girls night or even date night!

I went to see "Appropriate" last night at Dobama Theatre and it was such a fun experience! The theatre was cute and intimate, and the show was great! There is a small bar where you can get drinks and coffee. My roommate and I made a night of the show by going to dinner at a nearby pub, getting a cappuccino at the nearby coffee shop & cafe (Stove Oven), and then walked over to the show starting at 8. Parking was simple- there was a whole lot right next to it open for parking. I definitely recommend going and supporting this local theatre!

Housed in the former YMCA, across from the Hts. Library, Dobama is a cute intimate theater. The theatre has been going strong for 50 years and recently moved from the Coventry location [which sounded a bit grungy] to Lee Road. Inside, the renovated Dobama box office area and lobby resembles an office and not a YMCA.However, the theatre itself is very cosy and intimate. There's just under 200 seats [comfy and cushioned], lined up in rows on risers in the former YMCA pool basement. There's a low ceiling with the walls, floors, and ceiling painted black. The stage looks a tad small than my collage's theater. I met a board member who was around before the show who said nearly all of the shows have a cast less than 6 [one reason being the smaller stage, the main one being their small budget]. The ticket prices are reasonable: $17 for adults on thursdays, and ~$20 on the weekends, although the box office has abnormal hours. There's also some free ample parking, an anomaly for Cleveland Heights. It's just a short walk on Lee to the Cedar-Lee and other bars and restaurants. Affordable theatre, hurrah ! As for the show itself, I show Speech and Debate [featuring some student actors from BW] and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of acting.

I went for the first time this weekend and loved how small intimate the setting was. I also loved the acting in the play I saw, "Or." What was even more awesome was the actor Q&A after the show.

I saw The Lyons on Saturday. I've only been to the Cleveland Heights area for Cedar Lee movie theatre. There is a lot going on! The Dobama Theatre is across the street from the main library. Parking was easy, lots of options: behind the building, parking lot off to the side and on the street. The theatre was packed, only a couple seats open. I heard a summary of the 2013-2014 season plays, they sound amazing! I'll be going back.
