After being escorted in by the son maitre d'. Who commented on how his dog "Gus" also has an emotion support card. The wife owner instructed me that Service Dogs were not allowed in her restaurant! Even after me showing her the Certified Support Dog card from US Service Animals. It has since come to my understanding that individual restaurants can choose to honor ESA Emotional Support Animals. Ok I learned that now! They are protected on airplane and for housing. But, inconsistent messages given from the Son then completely contradicted by the mother was confusing at best!I would recommend a policy listed as if your restaurant supports ESA or not! I will then choose with my $$! I know that The Cork 1994, The Skunk and Goat Tavern & simply Outback all support ESAs 100%. Just do what is right for you and your needs!I don't particularly love the food selections there they are too fatty for my chosen diet! With the exception of The Filet that you need to special order in advance. I also can enjoy the Veal Milanese occasionally or the Pork Osso Bucco. The kitchen work has always been amazing and I love the owner and main chef Cee Colao ! With the exception of 1 meal in 7 years that was undercooked Chicken Parmigiana by a new chef that I later learned was fired. I do love the Pear Martini's there can't complain about those 1 bit! ;0)I for one will never go back while the wife is there who seams to treat people different on each trip depending on her mood. :0(To be honest it was never my favorite restaurant and too expensive for my expensive testes! It was my X-Wife's favorite so I always tolerated it and found my way to enjoy it and the guests, the son and daughter and the Owner Cee!

Great food and ambiance! Nice Italian spot. We had a good dinner here while in Erie. To start, we had the bread with their house oil and the mussels- both great. I appreciate the Italian spots that still do free bread! For our entrees, I had the scallops with the house made pappardelle pasta- delicious! The scallops were perfectly cooked and the pasta was to die for! My fiance had the bone-in ribeye and loved it- also perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and attentive. Someone was even standing outside opening the front door for people. Really liked this spot and will definitely be back if I ever find myself in Erie!

As a new patron, I could see this was Erie's version of Cheers. This restaurant is in the middle of a neighborhood. The owner and hostess knew a lot of customers by name. We started with stuffed banana peppers. The peppers were stuffed with hot sausage crumbles and covered with marina sauce. Every meal came with a house salad. It wasn't head lettuce. It was field greens, including endive on a dinner plate with the choice of 2 homemade vinegarettes. My guest isn't a fan of vegetables. I couldn't let those beautiful salads go to waste. I ate them both. Our waitress suggested dredging the bread through the banana pepper marinara sauce. How could we not take that recommendation? Our entrees were chicken fettuccine alfredo and eggplant parm with linguini. Servings were generous. I finished the breaded eggplant but threw in the towel on the linguini. On the other hand, all of the alfredo was gone. Based on the caliber of the meal, we knew we wanted dessert ... but there was NO ROOM. We got a slice of a dense chocolate cake and piece of tiramsu to go. Three hours later, we had dessert in our pajamas. This restaurant is definitely on our list for future dinners.

ERIE'S FINEST5 stars all the way. Beautiful Italian ristorante. Family business I read the history & shook hands with Nicholas at the door. It's the place to see & be seen on plum st. Had the chicken parm & it was great. My sister gave me the meatballs from her pasta to top my spaghetti side. Just great. Took some home. The apps were great too, the bruschetta & what else did we have ricotta balls I think. I have a picture I think, I'll post it. Make a rezzie this great restaurant is in high demand. Great visit to the old hometown. Used to be marucci's. 5 stars easy.

My favorite restaurant hands down.As far as the post about the emotion support dog review,(ESD)Restaurants do have a right to refuse ESD especially if they are not formally trained. Jason came over to talk to me and the owner and I asked if I could pet the dog. The dog nipped me and that's when the owner said no dog in here. At that point I was not into sitting at a bar with a growling dog in a sling. As a former flight attendant I've had lots of experience with service dogs and emotional support dogs. ESD should be trained not to bite. As far as the owners dog, Gus, he is never in the restaurant he's always in the office.I believe they were going to be okay with the dog until it went to bite me.

It was my first time eating Colao's. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana. I am puzzled and confused how thin the eggplant was sliced. Eggplant was as thin a tissue paper. No flavor of eggplant, just fried breading. The service was very good polite and a lot of smiles. Decor was very pleasing and lightning was just right. Now the people I was dining with were pleased with the dishes they selected. Pricing was a little bit high. Hard to find parking close by since they do not have a parking lot. I probably will not dine there again.

This place was recommended by locals while we were visiting and it did not disappoint. It's in a neighborhood, and has great ambience. The pasta was excellent, and the Caesar salad was authentic and fabulous. We will definitely go back to Calao's the next time we are in Erie.
