I visited Cleveland Public Theatre for the first time on Monday evening (a holiday - President's Day), 19 February 2024 to watch the play "ALTER". That day also happened to be the theatre's "Market Monday" so I got to browse local business before the play - I purchased some sweet alfajores and empanadas from Jossi's Bakery. I ate the two empanadas before heading into the play. Customer service was great. There was a greeter right as you entered the main doors and another greeter upstairs in the theatre area. The play was shown inside the James Levin Theatre which is upstairs and I believe there is another theatre inside the building too.PLAYS -- I saw ALTER on 19 Feb. and EYES ON THE BRIDGE on the 9th of March 2024. I went to the first play, Alter, by myself, and the second play with my 2 friends. Both shows were amazing with very talented female and male actors. Both shows did not have any fancy equipment but it wasn't needed because the acting was so good.FREE TEA/COFFEE (inside the James Levin Theatre) -- There is a small section to grab free tea or coffee right before you walk into the theatre. There is a small CONCESSION stand where you can purchase drinks and snacks.I love that the Cleveland Public Theatre has a "Pay What You Can" payment structure to ensure that theatre is available for everyone. Thus, when you pay for your ticket, you can pay any amount that you feel comfortable paying or that you can afford. The theatre provides recommended payment amounts on their website to help you decide what to pay if you are unsure.I will certainly be back here to watch another play. Whether you attend a play solo or with friends, you will enjoy your experience.****GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024- 13/150 total reviews in 2024- 663 total overall Yelp reviews- Reviewed on 16 March 2024

Visited for the first time over the weekend to see the Mojumba Dance Company performance of "Where the Light Enters". The show was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!! "Where the light enters highlights Black Woman and their struggles throughout generations and the resulting traumas endured as a community. We are working to hold space for Black Woman and have the conversation which brings us from the margin to the CENTER - excerts from the program"The performance featured modern and African dances. Musicians who plated the trumpet, bass, African drums and singers. The dancers were all incredible and super talented. It was such an amazing experience. The theatre has an old rustic feel to it and there was a visual artist by the name of Elysa Byrd that had a beautiful piece inside the gallery. The theatre offers good seating and although it's in the busy area of Gordon Square I was able to find good parking. There are many food options nearby such as Brewnuts, Ninja City Kitchen and Blue Hababero to name a few. Looking forward to attending another show in the very near future!!!

I attended a show here recently and forgot how much I absolutely adore CPT. There's free parking in the public lot nearby (look for the public art) just a skip away. It's truly a remarkable place we are lucky to have. Many productions are still under "pay what you can" - which honestly makes me tear up knowing they're authentically committed to bringing the arts to all regardless of socioeconomic status.I really appreciate that CPT is still requiring masks and even offered high-quality ones at check-in. COVID isn't over, especially for elderly people and people living with disabilities. The building is older but maintained nicely and hasn't compromised it's historic touches and interesting architecture. Seats are comfortable.CPT is cozy, inviting, and the stage is large but the interior is small enough to still make you feel like you're living in the production. Their DanceWorks series was absolutely stunning and truly showcased the best of Cleveland dance. I loved the complimentary tea and coffee and the sense of community available with other patrons!

Love Cleveland Public Theatre and everything they do! I'd previously been to their main theatre for dance performances. This time, I went with a group of students from my university to see American Dreams in the James Levin Theatre. It was a great production and a great experience. After the performance, we were able to sit and listen to a panel about refugees and their experience in Cleveland. I love the work that CPT puts into helping the community. Finally, the facilities are really nice! The seats were a bit uncomfortable but not a deal breaker. There wasn't a bad seat in the place (no photos were allowed inside the doors). The selection at the bar seemed pretty well stocked as well. All in all, a fantastic experience! Support local artists and check one of their shows out!

This is a cool little spot that I have alway heard about but never dipped my foot in the water here. After walking in to the Capital theater and realizing this was not CPT even though Google said otherwise. I made my way over.I saw El tiempo de Mariposas. This was a 2 hour play that has English subtitles. They play was excellent and very intense at times. If your looking to step outside your box check this theater out.

This was my first visit to Cleveland Public Theater and I was quite impressed. I saw The Loush Sisters and it was hysterical! If I were going to rate it based solely on the show, it would get 5 stars. The building is very rustic and it seems that it could use a little restoration. I was very confused by the seating arrangements. They were awkward and seemed maybe like they were temporary. The staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely go back.

Man, I can't believe Justin beat me to CPT's first review! CPT is part of the W.65th community. In fact, it's part of their foundation! This theater has done so much to bring the arts to the area as well as allow for a venue for aspiring playwrights and actors to share their craft. The main theater is set up "black box" style and they've done everything from live music to plays and festivals. Over the years, they've expanded from just the main theater to a lower level space as well as the neighboring theater which had its heyday back in the 20s or 30s. When they expanded and opened it up, it coincided with the 40 year anniversary of Hiroshima and I was part of the performance in its honor. It was an amazing show. I also used to do volunteer ushering (free shows!) and fund raising. CPT is a great part of this community. In fact, it rocks!

I attended my first play at CPT last month: a one-woman show carried by the brave and talented, Nina Domingue. Not only was the performance area intimate, but the caliber of acting was superb. I didn't know what to expect walking in to the place, but I walked out knowing I wanted to come back.

Saw Mr Burns: A Post Electric PlAy at CPT. We see a lot of theater from NYC to London to the higher priced Playhouse Square offerings, and this production would be a stand out at any one of those venues. Great acting, inventive staging and costumes, and wonderful singing. Bravo CPT!We also liked the facility. Comfortable with reasonably priced drinks and snacks. Cool old grand theater meets urban decay vibe which matched this production perfectly.
