They were open during the lockdown and I really respect how he cared about his employees (because that matters just as much as the food). When people are happy to work, the food is prepared with love and you can taste it. Now to food...try the Aegean...thank me later. I also pick up their Junior cheeseburger for my children and the baklava is the owners' grandma's recipe. It's the truth!"

Carrie N. "This was the second time we came to this establishment. We stopped here last year during our last trip to Toledo. Just as last year I commented on their hours of operation. They are a full-service bar/restaurant, located in downtown Toledo, very close to the Mud Hens home field (the Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball team). Yet they close at 8 pm every business day. Last year when we came in, I recall them rushing us (it was approximately 7:00 pm) about when they closed. This year we arrived by 6:30 or earlier and still felt incredibly rushed. More on this in a minute. The menu is large, but nonmeat options were small. They offer a Vegan Mediterranean Beyond Burger, that is advertised as "cooked separately" served in a lettuce wrap with our chickpea sauce, topped with arugula, red onion, and olive tapenade then garnished with sliced cucumber, cherry tomato, and sesame seed sprinkle. It comes with Chips. The chips were right out of a bag, so I looked to substitute a different side for $3.00. I asked about the French fries and if they are fried separately from other foods, such as chicken or fish. No, they are all fried in the same oil our server told us. I quickly requested a tossed salad, no cheese. Perhaps it's just my opinion but why do you fry everything together? The oil will taste like fish or chicken then you fry potatoes in there. They also advertise fried brussels sprouts and calamari. All goes in the same fryer. So, if you don't eat meat, you have very few options here, as even the non-meat starters are tainted.Anyways it was happy hour, and they offered a dollar off the draft list. I asked about one drink if it was a certain kind of beer, and she did not know and went to check. She did not seem too knowledgeable on the draft list, so I ordered what sounded like a hazy IPA. We were enjoying our drinks when our food came out probably within 10 minutes of ordering. I was hungry so no complaints on the quickness. My burger was fine. It was served in this big, very hard to handle lettuce bun. My biggest complaint about the burger would be the olive tapenade. It tasted fine but was plopped on the burger in a dallop. And since this is wrapped in lettuce it was not like I could open it up like a bun. So, I got a big mouthful of tapenade all at once... YIKES, salty... Speaking of salty I was mid-bite, still at least half a sandwich or more, at least half a beer in front of me when the server came over to ask, "will you be having desert?" I am chewing, which was obvious when she stopped over, so I decided to answer with my mouth full. "Maybeee" in a muffled voice, I hadn't even finished my bite. One may think it was like 15 minutes until closing time, when it was 7:00pm. I finished that bite and we both agreed to get our next drink elsewhere. The review is mixed. I liked the burger though it had flaws. The location is great, atmosphere is cool sports bar like, and the staff albeit made me feel rushed an hour before they closed, were nice. But so many other things, I am not sure I'd bother coming back."

Robert P. "We decided to try Flip Side because the Seed Oil Scout App rated it high for not using seed oils. The staff said the fries are cooked in lard and they may be the best fries I've ever had. The decor is sharp looking and nicely executed. The service and staff were great. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that my burger was a little over cooked. I ordered medium, but it was closer to well done. It has caramelized onions and bacon on it, and a fancy bun, and it was fabulous though. The other three burgers were cooked to order. I'll definitely come back."

Everyone gets along. They're just there for the awesome food. They've got a good selection of classic bar food however, their wings are something to write home about. Dan H. "While going through my reviews, I was shocked and dismayed that I had never posted a review of the Original location of Bob's Hamburg. This place is an Akron institution, and everyone should check it out. Now, I was going to post an update to my review due to a recent visit when I discovered I had never reviewed it, so I'll just tell you about that experience. I stopped in with my six year old after going to the zoo recently. It's perfect for a zoo trip, I think it's less than a five minute drive. It was a bit of an odd time, and we ended up having the restaurant to ourselves. We sat at the bar, and my son ordered a root beer (Bob's own label), a hot dog and fries. I ordered a Bob's Double Cheeseburger with everything, and a side of onion rings. It had been a while since I had been there, and I honestly don't think I've taken my son before. When we pulled in he said it doesn't look special. I told him it's iconic and a throw back, which I don't think he understood. So we are seated at the bar, and I'll say he thought it was pretty cool that he could watch our food being cooked like 4 feet away. He LOVED the hot dog, it's big, I think a quarter pound. He's usually pretty picky on fries, but he ate quite a bit of them, then wanted to take them home, lol. Now on to my food. If you've never had a Bob's Burger before, you are missing out. They are smashed and griddled and just delicious! An Everything is Onion, Pickle, Lettuce, Bob's Sauce, which is like this tomatoey, relishy thin sauce with a bit of tang to it, and Stray Dog mustard. Boy, the combination of the sauce and mustard, with the crunch of the veg and the gooey cheese and smashed, well seasoned patties is just about perfect in my opinion. Certainly a great burger, one of the best in the area imo. And the onion rings are just amazing! Hand battered per order, fried and crunchy, the onion is soft. Without a doubt my favorite in the area!I would be remiss too to not mention the staff. Our waitress was amazing, talking to my kid, asking him questions, just being so nice to him. There were several other people that worked there that came out and talked to him too. It was great! And when we left, my son couldn't quit talking about how special that place was after all!"

The drink prices are a dollar less than regular price. The food is the flatbread of the day. Today the flatbread was Rueben. It was good with a wood fired taste. I tried the pasta pomodoro, buffalo wings, and arancini. However, my favorite is the loaded fries. In the BEST way possible, the fries resemble McDonald fries (which I think is a huge compliment), and is then smothered with cheese and bacon. I always ask for the ranch on the side and it HITS every time. The waitress was super nice and friendly as well. The outdoor patio is perfect for brunch, happy hour, or just to enjoy the summer weather with friends. It was within walking distance of our hotel too, so bonus!I ordered the Shack Burger without cheese and on a gluten free bun, with crinkle cut fries. My boyfriend had the same. The lady who took our order was ridiculously friendly and that day I was wearing a shirt about rescuing, adopting, and fostering dogs. She then told us about adopting her pit bull during the pandemic and I wanted her to be my friend instantly. The way to my heart is adopting a pit bull. She also wished us a good day when we were leaving and I wanted so bad to ask her if I could see a picture of her dog, but knew it probably wasn't appropriate, as she was on the job. Smoked Angus corned beef, Thousand Island dressing, Swiss cheese and grilled sauerkraut on a grilled pretzel bun. You can also choose rye, white, or multigrain bread. This sandwich has changed my mind about Reubens. The smoked corned beef smelled so good and tasted out-of-this-world delicious. We also ordered the ribs & wing combo which wasn't any good and I can't recommend it. The bbq sauce was watery, tasted cheap and lacked flavor. The ribs were tender but were not flavorful at all. The boneless wings were terrible. They were dry, flavorless and freezer burned. Yuck! The onion rings were also terrible. The chips tasted oId and stale and the dip was literally a horseradish dip that didn't go well with the chips. I am not one to leave food on my plate and if I do I take it home. This food unfortunately wasn't worth eating or taking home.
