Avonia Tavern

The food is well executed tavern fare. I had a nice broiled fish and my son adored the chicken fingers. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. The overall layout is sort of modern tavern/sports bar but nice and clean.

I came here for buffalo wings with my girlfriend. The place was fully packed and loud (expected for a Friday night). We ordered a couple rounds of beers and buffalo wings.Our waitress was very delayed in delivering beers each time we ordered another round. The first round of wings were great! We were so happy, but when we ordered a second round, they came out totally charred and the wrong flavor. Then when we told our waitress that the wings were incorrect and burnt, she took them back, and within 2 minutes (not joking) she brought them back and said "I had them make you a whole new basket!" and considering each wing order took about 20 minutes to arrive, it was very clear it was the exact same burnt order of wings, but with a drizzle of buffalo sauce.. On top of that, we ordered celery and carrots, which (I cannot make this up) arrived in a dirty soup bowl that had chunks of cheese on it as if it was previously used for onion soup. We immediately sent it back and our waitress brought a new one (thinking back though, knowing she only had the kitchen drizzle sauce on our burnt wings, I wouldn't be surprised if they just dumped the dirty bowl of carrots and celery into a different "clean" bowl).The table next to us sat locals who said they had been going to Avonia for 20 years and it was the worst food and service they had EVER had in 20 years and told us their wings were even more burnt than ours. My girlfriend and her family lived in Erie years before and she also agreed this place once was amazing but now clearly the service and quality of food being put out to customers has drastically gone down hill.The first order wings was so perfect, that's the only reason we ordered extra, but again, unfortunately it was disappointing to see how the service was awful from the beginning and the food following was inedible.

Their bone-in wings are pretty good and is the only reason this isn't a 1-star review. My mom and I went to Avonia Tavern on Saturday evening. I ordered some french onion soup and cranch boneless wings. My mom ordered garlic and butter boneless wings. The boneless wings are not edible for three reasons:1. The amount of salt in the seasoning is unreal. It literally burns your tongue. My mom said her wedding ring hurt her hand the next day because her fingers swelled up due to the salt2. There's way too much breading on the boneless wings3. The boneless wings were way overcooked. The thick breading was crunchy and the wing meat was chewy.I left at least half of my boneless wings uneaten and my mom probably left around 2/3 of hers uneaten. The waitress (looked to be in high school) apologized but didn't make it right. Service was not very good either. She only came back once to check up on us (that's when we complained about the boneless wings) and I also asked for some more water, which I never received. The french onion soup was alright and the french fries were pretty good, but the boneless wings were so bad I won't be going back to The Avonia Tavern for a meal.

Grew up there in Whitehall and when I was old enough the good old Avonia Tavern was one of our regular haunts. I remember trips through the cornfield bc that's the way my brothers & sister did it. Moved away 25 years ago & this year had the urge to drive by the old neighborhood. Stopped at avonia beach, they got a sign there now and everything. Drove by the Laird's driveway my top grade school friend but I imagine she wasn't there. Had a small pizza & a couple Busch at the tavern. Pizza was great, had the fried type pepperoni that they used to have at Aggie's Pizza. Loved Aggie's growing up. Wish more bars had Busch. All the Erie bars do it. I told the barmaid loud enough for everyone that I grew up across the street in Whitehall but no takers. In fairview everybody knew everybody & if u hear a last name u say ohh u went to school with my sister or some such. Now it would be ohhh tell your dad I said hey I'm so old. Drove by the old homestead & snapped a photo for old times sake. You can go home again. I loved growing up there. Went to see the family at CHQ for thanksgiving. It was a great trip, happy thanksgiving to all my readers! 5 stars btw. The bar is very clean and nice people. Good pizza too the square type.

Can't wait until they get their full menu back, but the food is tasty, the beer is cold, and the service is very friendly.

Avonia Tavern is a nice place to go for a family outing or with a larger group. We had a party of 9 and came in around 8:30pm one evening after spending the day at Waldameer. Service was absolutely great, we had the friendliest waitress who brought out waters for everyone immediately and was very accommodating to our group with children and a wheelchair. The food was standard tavern stuff, prices were reasonable and the location is great with plenty of parking. I had the liver and onions which I didn't really care for but that was my fault for ordering it! The side salad was really good with homemade ranch dressing. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their food as well. We will definitely come back.

Nice restaurant and bar. Their renovations are nice. The food is good. Variety on their menu. I would give them a 5 star except for their service which tends to be really slow. It's been slow for years. Otherwise a nice place to stop.

Great fish dinner , wings are delicious. Nice atmosphere for a few friends to get together.

First time eating here. Definitely a locals bar and restaurant. Went late afternoon and the the bar and dining area started to get busy. Most patrons seemed to know the bartenders and servers.Menu has a large selection plus some nice monthly featured items. Serving sides were generous and food was equally good.Service friendly and prompt. This place was a pleasant surprise.

Our favorite place for burgers, ribs & wings. I think my wife would go just for the homemade ranch dressing.
