I cannot speak highly enough about the work Alessandro (and his team) have done here for so many years. My wife and I came to this spot over a decade ago, and just recently introduced it to a group of friends while we were up in the area on a winery weekend excursion. A super small and intimate space, it is really fun to watch Alessandro perfect his craft in such a small kitchen...honestly it is amazing!Service was very pleasant and attentive, although meal prep time is longer than normal due to the unique nature of this restaurant...but trust me, it is worth the wait! We each started with a small house salad while we sipped our wine and munched on fresh bread. Then came the calamari, served in a small bowl of herbed rich tomato-based broth with chunks of crusty bread for sopping up the delicious sauce. For my main dish, I chose one of the nightly specials which was veal osso buco. It was so meaty, so rich and full of flavor that it was hard to put my fork down!Everyone around the table raved about their meal choice, and we all left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Definitely don't sleep on this place and don't let looks deceive you from the outside...because inside is the real deal!

Local Italian restaurant that serves homemade pasta & dinners. The owner has made every dinner coming out of the kitchen for the last 25 years! His daughter waited on us was SUPER friendly & helpful. I had the Salsiccia Alla Cacciatora & it was fantastic! She had Petto Di Pollo Alla Roberto & loved it. Also had Crostini With Mushroom Pate for an appetizer. You should try it! Lastly, a cannoli split between us. The dining room is just...eh, but the food is probably the best Italian food I've ever had. Seriously. If you're near here, you've got to eat here! There may be a wait, but it's worth it.

We love Alessandro's! The food and preparation comes from the heart. The small quaint atmosphere is awesome and the service is second to none. Thank you for this great dinning option in Saybrook! We recommend Alessandro's to everyone interested in a fine dinning experience.

Because of all of the positive reviews, we decided to try this place. We arrived around 7:15 pm and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. No problem for great food, we would wait 20 minutes. Cute place with a little view of the lake. We knew what we wanted so we ordered as soon as the waitress came over to get our drink order. Thank goodness we got our appetizer and salads soon after we sat down because fast forward to 9:00 pm we still did not have our entrees. We eat out often and I can't remember the last time it took almost 1 1/2 hours to actually get the main course. Very disappointing. After all that, we felt the food tasted alright, but we expected more. I really wanted to like this place but a bad experience for us.

Went to this restaurant for the first and last time. Went with a party of eight. They convinced us that they could seat us. They put two different size tables together. My husband and I had to sit on a corner. Food was the worst i ever had I ordered pasta with clams. Very small portion. The noodles were all broken and i had six clams. Salads are served in a dessert bowl with just a few green lettuce leave and a tiny sliver of tomato. My husband had pasta Roberto. Sun dried tomatoes were bitter and the chicken and veggies were bland. Plus our table was right across the kitchen, which was all open for anyone to see. The stuff they were cooking caused me to cough as soon as we got there. Don't go.

Amazing little place. Came here for the pasta. Heard this was a staple in Ashtabula. Got the linguini and was exceptionally great. Get any of the pastas. They are a family owned shop and it's all great. Will be back for sure.

It was our first time at Alessandro's ,was not happy with the whole process.meatballs are made from frozen stock,when I ordered side of them ,not even any sauce and the side of pasta had no sauce? Serve had a short call ? We order Mussels appetizer about 1/2 way through meal they came when we asked waitress where the mussels ??Meals small portions ? The wine was the best part of meal. The appetizers not very fresh / bread seemed bit old.over all experience will be our first and last time dining there LG RG

Food was excellent. My demonically steak and my wife homemade ravioli were 4 stars plus The waiter Gusippi was top notch

One of the nicest places I ever been Lala was amazing. Wonderful customer service one of the best waitresses I've ever experienced very informative pays attention to detail. The food was magnificent, the ambience was accelerating. I will definitely be back when I return to Tennessee from California.
