Let's get one thing out of the way: The food is great and the atmosphere is fun. Now, a story. We come here once a month (after the Home Depot kids workshop, which I also highly recommend!). Last month, I ordered one of their chicken sandwiches, but they accidentally made me a different one. I said, "great, no problem, I was deciding between those two anyway!" He said, I'll make it right, but I insisted it was totally fine. (And it was delicious.)Next month we come again. As I'm ordering, one of the two owners squints at me, and says, "I owe you something. I made a mistake." It took me a sec, but I then remembered the chicken sandwich. I said, "oh, yeah, a month ago..." and reminded him. He confirmed it, and then comped the Philly cheesesteak I had just ordered. So they also have the best service ever.

Amazing food! The Caliente Burger with a Veggie patty was delicious and the fries were perfectly seasoned. We tried their onion rings afterwards and absolutely loved them. It's really hard to find good onion rings and these were by far the best we ever had. Highly recommend this place! Their homemade ranch and the hot sauce are delicious. Service was awesome. Atmosphere was great. We had a great experience overall. Would definitely go back again.

Classics Malt Shop in San Diego definitely lives up to its reputation, offering what might be the best burger in the city. The Western burger I tried was outstanding, generously loaded with onion rings and impressively large. The fries were crispy and fresh, perfectly complemented by the shop's homemade ranch dressing, making for an excellent side. Even the soda stood out, with the syrup ratio perfectly balanced, enhancing the overall dining experience. What really sets Classics Malt Shop apart is the exceptional customer service. Jeff and his team go above and beyond. Jeff not only remembered my name and previous order but also made sure to check if I enjoyed my meal and proactively offered a refill on my coke as soon as I walked back through the door. The ambiance of the place, reminiscent of a classic burger shop, is inviting and spotlessly clean, adding to the nostalgic charm. Overall, it's a top-notch spot that I highly recommend for anyone looking for a great burger and equally great service.

Before dropping off my wife at SAN for a red eye east coast flight, I found this great sounding diner to grab a burger before the drop off.We pulled into the parking lot around 1630. I was surmising that it wouldn't be too busy before the dinner time rush before they close at 1900. I was wrong. The inside of the diner was pretty full and the limited amount of tables inside were all pretty much occupied when we were at the front counter ordering. Luckily, a table opened up right when we finished ordering at my wife and I were able to eat inside. There is outside table as well, many occupied by a Mustang Car club enjoying the day and sharing their classics for all the patrons to see.My wife ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger ($12.00);I ordered the Hungryman Burger ($18.00);We decided to share one order of fries ($3.50)We also order two sodas ($2.50 each)Pre-Tip Sub Total: $38.50As mentioned, we grabbed the first table that became available after ordering. While the previous occupants were not too messy, it needed to wiped down. And it was. A very attentive and friendly staff member came over to our table and wiped it down for us.Our orders were soon ready and we brought then back to our table. I took one look at my Hungryman burger and thought, crap, I can easily polish off an In n Out 4x4 (which, now, weigh approx. 2 oz. precooked) and get my mouth on the entire 4x4 but this tower of meat burger (1/4 oz. precooked x4), there was no way to do so.My wife was laughing at me while she bit into her burger. She was very happy with her burger, cooked to where it was not a dry hockey puck and was loaded with bacon. I decided tactically the only way to eat my burger was to deconstruct it. I had to take two of the patties and half of the brioche bun and devour one half then do the same with the other two patties. Wow, what a F**k**g great burger that Hungryman. It satisfied my craving for that old diner kinda of burger, juicy, greasy and messy. Our fries were ok, nothing special. We might order a different side next time we come here, which we will.Everyone that worked there provided great and attentive service.Adding Midway Classics Malt Shop to our San Diego favorites list!

They were right when they said that the employees here are super nice. The food was delicious as well! I loved the atmosphere and even though it was full, there was always a place for somebody to sit once they got their order

The atmosphere here is one-of-a-kind as it is one of the few true diners left in San Diego. They are known for their malt shakes (prepared the traditional way with their retro mixer) and classic burgers. Otherwise, they also serve Cheesesteaks, Doggers, and Sandwiches. I had the Buffalo Burger special with fries. This came on a brioche bun with a 1/4lb patty, lettuce, tomato, and onions. The burger was massive! It probably could have used better seasoning but their homemade ranch offered in a sauce container on the side was a save. The fries were a little overdone to my liking, but big and plentiful. On a bigger note, that toasted up brioche bun was intense; my jaw was working over time trying to get through that burger! The guys running the operation are true East Coasters. They are incredibly down to earth and, what seems foreign now, are all about fostering community bonds. A true anomaly in that they are one of the few honest businesses left. That in and of itself deserves recognition and praise! Nothing but positive vibes from this upstanding business!

This was our first time here, and first and foremost I have to compliment the customer service! The owners well I'm assuming they are the owners but it sure seemed so, were very friendly and as we were leaving stopped to thank us for coming in. We really appreciated that, so many times you go somewhere and are just another number, I have a feeling that it would be easy to become a regular here just because they really were that friendly and made you feel appreciated and welcomed. It's definitely a place we will come back to next time we're in town. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. I'll definitely try a malt next time.
