I am a self proclaimed presidential history "nerd". I've read a biography on each president in order (currently reading F.D.R.), and my bucket list includes visiting all their birth and burial places. I also make it a point to visit presidential libraries, national historic sites, etc.Grant's birthplace was worth visiting for me, but I'm not sure it would be worth seeing for anyone who isn't a die hard presidential history fan. It's not the easiest place to get to. Having said that, Chris, the docent working the site (along with his intern) were knowledgeable and I really enjoyed chatting with them. Although they do have a "back room" featuring a display case full of authentic Grant items, I left just a little bit underwhelmed. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I can tell you I do a lot of these historical sites and I tend to be tough on them!No matter, if you're in the area, go take a look.

This is a very nice park located along the Ohio River outside of Cincinnati about 30 miles. We enjoy the park because it's so nice and peaceful here. There are picnic tables, grills and bathrooms along the highway and river with parking...all Free There is a small house that he was born in. It has really weird hours and even though I have been here at least five times....never has the house been open. It's tiny, can't be that big inside, but it is so nice and inviting. I could live in a small quaint house like this one. There are nice views of the Ohio River and a large lawn for such a small home. The park itself is free to walk around and read signs, picnic and enjoy. But I believe there is a fee for the house tour.

I stopped years ago to visit Grant's birthplace. It was well worth the visit. It is amazing that such an important U.S. General could come from such humble beginnings. Small historical locations like this have always fascinated me and you get more information than you do at more popular sites like Mount Vernon or Monticello. If you are in the area, stop for a quick visit. It

Interesting location to visit on the bicentennial celebration of President Ulysses S. Grant's (AKA Hiram) birth. Greg, our tour guide, was sensational. Beautiful location and a must-see on the Ohio River.

Had a wonderful experience at Grants birth home. While much is written about Grant's later years this focuses on his early years and parents. We had a wonderful discussion with the curator. He gave us a detailed accounting of Grants early life and how he presumably inherited the title of Ulysses S. Grant.
