A great burger, in a classic diner, and if you're timing is good you'll see some interesting aircraft.

I love this place! The "Airport" sandwich is terrific! Ham, turkey, great bacon, lettuce & tomato on perfectly toasted (grilled?) sourdough.Do not skip their pies! The peanut butter pie, rocks.Even better? Sit on the ramp-side patio and watch the airplanes! Will I return? Yes!

We flew into Grimes Field, Urbana and The Airport Cafe was right off the taxi way. They even had airplane parking. It was a Saturday around lunch time and the place was packed. We were still able to get a seat right away, the staff were very nice and still able to get use at a very good pace. The Buffalo burger I had was thinner than I expected when it came out, but the radious was must bigger. It tasted amazing though and was a very high quality burger. There was no pink in the middle which is normally my preference, but it tasted like it was made like that. The buns were the perfect amount of toasted on the stove. I am a fan of lettuce tomato so that's what I got. Heads up I took a big L on ordering the regular fries. They were fine, but my friend got the sweet potato fries and they were way better than mine. I also saw a person order the onion rings and they looked good. They gave a lot and they were the big thick kind. I also ordered the western omelet. Absolute fire of an omelet and was a decent size not too thin but wasn't super thick either. I think they put the perfect amount of extras on it as well. Very good, I could have ate like 6 of those it was so good. Lastly, my friend ordered the coconut pie. I am usually not a desert person, but it looked so extraterrestrial I had to cop one. Totally a good move, because it was so good. This place didn't change my life or anything, but if you have the chance to go you should because it's great. It's also a good spot to watch the airplanes land and take off. All of the kids that were there couldn't take their eyes off the runway. The feel of this establishment is vintage small town airport vibes. It would be a nice place to bring a date.

They are known for the house made pies, now I see they have a giant cinnamon bun! The crowd here is seasoned, you can't swing a golden buckeye card without hitting a meemaw or pawpaw. It's a great place to eat, especially if there are airplanes to watch. The menu is diner style, lots of choices, the price is fair, and so are the portions. They do run out of options, so don't always expect to get breakfast at 6pm, or all the pie options. They have basic beer and wine choices, if you are fancy. Staff is friendly and attentive, owner operator is there if you want to meet them. Some menu items have locally sourced ingredients. We started with breaded mushrooms, not sure if they were breaded in house, but they are cooked perfectly, crunchy breading. Richelle had the double cheese burger and I had the airport sandwich, cooked perfectly, only issue is I would have liked a half a handful more of the fries. This place would be if they wowed it up a bit, house made dressing, dipping sauces, an aioli, seasoned battered fries, but maybe that isn't what the people want. Also when we visited, it was heavy rain, the A/C was set to 78, a touch hot, but not so much as to ruin the dining experience. There is a outside covered area, even better for plane spotting.

The airport café is always busy, which says a lot about their food and service. The food is very good and home-cooked. You definitely need to try their homemade pies.

Flew in today for lunch. The Cafe is a little small but they do have outdoor seating as well. The menu ranges from breakfast to steaks. They have a senior and a kids menu. The Coffee I ordered was okay 3 out of 5 stars but hey this isn't a coffee shop. I ordered the pork loin sandwich. It wasn't huge, but it was filling and it was good. The fries were hot and tasty. Now dessert. I was told the butterscotch pie was amazing. I make a very good butterscotch pie at home. This pie was as good as I make, but the meringue on the top of the pie was worth it. It must have been 3 inch thick and was perfect. They have a huge selection of homemade pies and now I will have to keep coming back to at least sample them all. I will gladly come back. The prices were not bad either.
