I had the birria (goat) tacos & horchata to drink-both excellent. Huge glass of horchata, btw, and delicately sweet. I sampled the steak in my husband's tacos and the meat was tasty, tender, and bite sized. My son had the chicken quesadilla w/rice and beans. I sampled the chicken and it was very tender. We also ordered the nachos and a side guacamole-both were very, very good. Lots of fresh cilantro in the guac and the nachos are loaded! Excellent experience. Definitely adding this place to our rotation and cannot wait to go back.

I tried this new place twice in a day. It's definitely authentic. I loved the chorizo tacos. I liked the agua de Jamaica. They have a salsa bar and the tomatillo salsa was excellent. I was disappointed with the quesadilla and elote. They seemed pretty small. Customer service was great though. I would return to try more on the menu. The nice thing is they have a drive thru and stay open late.

Wow!The tacos I had from Tacos Don Jose were incredible. I had the tacos Al pastor and everything about my meal was fantastic. The cashier was very friendly and my tacos were ready very quickly. This is truly a hidden gem and I would recommend anyone looking for authentic, delicious tacos to give Tacos Don Jose a try!

Probably the best way to critique this taqueria is to do an A to B comparison a similar taqueria, so I will compare it to Tacolumbus since the menus are very similar. I do like Tacolumbus and give them 4 stars but let's move on to Don Jose. Don Jose has table seating and you order at your table. I like this much better than standing in line at a counter to place an order at Tacolumbus. Don Jose has a salsa bar so you can select your own salsas/sauces. Tacolumbus brings a variety of sauces/salsas to your table which has more options and better flavor. The flour taco at Don Jose is a lot lighter and tastier than Tacolumbus. The taco tortilla at Tacolumbus is very heavy and I always remove one layer to lighten it up. I had a mixed meat tqco and a Mexican sausage taco. I give the sausage a 5 for taste and tenderness. I give the mixed meat a 2 mostly for toughness. The mixed meat at Tacolumbus is much more tender. So there are pros and cons with each facility but I would give them both a 4 rating.

Best tacos in Columbus I've found. Closest thing to LA street tacos I've found in the area. The people working there are wonderful. Please eat here and keep it alive.

If you are familiar with the north-east side of Columbus you'll know where this place is if you say "go to the old Indiana Smokehouse BBQ place." (I miss this place!) It's now painted somewhat yellow and is next to Wendy's. There isn't a lot of signs so it's a bit difficult to see if you are unfamiliar with the area. I've now tried this restaurant about 6-7 times. Each time I've been pretty boring and ordered 3 Asada (steak) tacos since I like how they do their tacos. I attached some pictures of the tacos as-received from the kitchen and then after a trip to what they call the "salsa bar." I would say this place has a unique character that isn't your standard Mexican restaurant. Good basic authentic flavors. This is especially true after a trip to the "salsa bar". Adding a few items to the tacos from the salsa bar is where things really become great! I do like the salsa bar concept but I do not like that there are no labels on what is what. Yes, I can tell one of the items are radishes but for the other containers it would be nice to know what they are and how spicy each one is. For me, I LOVE spicy so I don't mind diving into any of the salsa bar items. For my wife, she wants to know what might be too spicy. So please add some labels that clarify what is in the salsa bar. The service has been fine each time and there has been plenty of seating. It would help if they were a little quicker on dropping off the bill during lunch time. Other than that, it's nice to have another solid Mexican restaurant in Columbus. I'll report back when I try more menu items.
