It was so fun! For two people it was around $25 for 2 games and shoes. It smells like cigarette a little bit, but overall the place looks clean. They sell food/snacks/drinks as well!

I love to bowl, but I hate how the industry and sport has tried to glamorize itself for a new millennium. There's something delightfully old-fashioned and decidedly non-advanced about going to the ole bowling alley, Lebowski kitsch notwithstanding. Bellewood Lanes is one of those bowling alleys that seems stuck in the late 80s, and it's perfectly content to do so, and you wouldn't want it any other way.Nestled in a residential Newport neighborhood, Bellewood is blissfully free of no-smoking policies, so the first thing you get when you walk in the door is that great, sort of musty, smoky smell that reminds you, this is a bowling alley: not a dance club, not a restaurant, not a video arcade. The digital scoring system is probably the most advanced piece of equipment they have, and even it seems trapped in 1992, with hokey 3-D animations from the dawn of semi-advanced computing. It is, however, cheap and fun, as bowling should be. They recently invested in a new batch of shoes, and there is a good selection of ball sizes to choose from, with lighter kid-friendly weights available behind the counter. The lanes are old, but they're well-maintained and definitely properly oiled. The ball returns can be cranky, eating balls and spitting them out in a procession five minutes later, but what bowling alley doesn't have those kinds of technical difficulties?Bellewood also has a fairly substantial bar, offering buckets of domestics at 5 for $12--somewhat overpriced, I know, but worth it to keep a business like this one afloat. They also have mixed drinks and wine coolers, as well as snack menu that consists of wonderful-smelling but somewhat greasy burgers, chicken fingers, and fries. It's a bit disheartening to see the staff unwrap a frozen chicken strip and plop it directly into the fryer, but you don't really go to a bowling alley for the food, do you?The staff consists of mostly older folk, who are consistently warm and friendly, no matter how boisterous your crowd may get, delivering snack bar orders to you in person and tidying up your empty beer bottles. Bellewood is a great place to have a group or a league: their leagues are especially active, which gives me hope for keeping the dream of classic bowling alive. All in all, it's a fun little place to throw a few pins, relax and hang out, which really is what bowling should be all about.

On Sunday afternoon we decided to head to the bowling alley for a little fun so we got out the GPS and it lead us to the closet alley Bellewood Lanes. Now I had been here once before so I made sure that I dressed appropriately. While the average smoker may love the fact that they can smoke at Bellewood, the nonsmoker may find it not so enjoyable. Once you walk in you can see the cloud of smoke hovering above the bowling pins and sticking to your clothes. But if you can get past the annoyance of second hand smoke, this place is not so bad. It is your typical bowling alley. I did appreciate the prices. Bowling here is affordable; I heard they are even better during happy hour. The prices for beer and food are average so it is nice to know that you won't go broke bowling here on Sunday afternoon.

We had a great time taking our kids bowling for the first time. The place was big (32 lanes), nice & looked like it had been remodeled within the last 5 years. The bathrooms were your typical gas station type no frills, get me out of here, touch nothing bathrooms. They have a couple vending machines, a few arcade games & an area to buy drinks & snacks. I asked one employee how to work an arcade game my kids wanted to play & his response was "I don't know." Well... Part of your job is knowing. Not helpful at all. My biggest complaint is the smoking. There were two employees working & one sat & chain smoked nearly the entire two hours we were there. My chest was burning after 10 minutes. If my kids weren't having such a great time, I would have left. They were also expecting a child's Bday party. I'm very surprised smoking is allowed by anyone but for your employees to be sitting around chain smoking should be a huge NO! I hope to find a non smoking alley. It's a shame bc this place is pretty nice & close to home.

Good bowling® ally but the lanes have a shine from the lights that makes it difficult on some lanes to focus on your mark. Solid house pattern oil, can get a bit wet time to time.
