Studebaker's Country Restaurant

My husband and I unfortunately had to go to Ohio for a dear friend's funeral. We lived in Ohio for 10 years and made some lifelong friends there but we had not been back in person for over 20 years.Prior to the funeral we were hungry and decided to go to Studebaker's. It was like stepping back in time. There were several elderly gentleman there having coffee and eating breakfast. By their banter with each other and the friendly waitresses, you could tell they were there every morning to tease each other and the waitresses.The menu and decor were old school. No mimosas or bloody Mary's here. Good strong hot coffee ( my husband said it was the best coffee he's had in years), Pepsi products, chocolate milk, Tea ("Ya want yours sweet, Honey?") and an old timey food menu your Grandma would have been proud to serve you.The menu was extensive but I choose the Swiss Steak hot shot. It was so delicious that I ate every single bite which is unusual for me. My husband got the fried Bologna Sandwich and fries. Fried Bologna sandwiches are a unique Ohio staple but oh, so yummy. This place made us both happy and full which was great as it was a difficult day, having to say goodbye to a dear friend.

Ha! I had to laugh because my husband was here a year ago and submitted a post. We are coming back for breakfast. The food is solid country cooking and the service is given with down home comfort. I heard the bean soup is excellent. Wish it was a daily staple because they serve it on Mondays and maybe on Tuesday if there are leftovers. Today is Wednesday and they are out if it. They are known for the roasted chicken. Yes. We came back for breakfast!

This is a friendly and family restaurant. The food I yummy and down home. Eggs, grits, bacon and an awesome rye toast.Give it a try it will be worth the trip.FYI- this review for the New Carlisle location.

One of my favorite places to go in New Carlisle. It doesn't have 50 tables, loud music or waitresses stopping to dances. You walk in and it feels like family telling you to find a chair. The staff act like they have worked together for 50 years. I love going places where employees enjoy their job. You can tell they're friends and help one another. Maybe their not friends but the are definitely a carefree choreographed team of professionals. Ordering and check out are seamless. I usually get breakfast and take home chili for dinner. To go option is simple too. I usually call in and pickup. They always package with care so it doesn't fall over in your car. Sounds silly but sometimes it's a whole bunch of little things that make it so popular.

Food half cooked. The waitresses had to talk about who was going to wait on us. Service was not very good, waitress seemed like she wasn't very interested in serving.Use to be a good place to go to.Don't know if we'll be back. Waitress also never asked how anything was.

Restaurant known for chicken, which is very good, but service is awful. Rude treatment unless you're a regular. Very, very long wait times. If they are out of something that is supposed to go with your meal (bread?), they refuse to offer alternative unless you pay extra, but also don't take it off your bill. Feel sorry for employees.

Amazing breakfast! Love the private owned mom and pop type places! The servings are a great size! Lots of menu options. You won't leave hungry. Yummy

My husband really enjoyed his steak sandwich. I enjoyed my country fried steak and eggs. However, after five years of loyal business we were told we were not allowed to water or hand feed my service dog. This was upsetting because the servers had offered to-go cups and had asked the kitchen to cut up sausages for us until then. We always brought our own water bowl and hand fed with no complaints. No one had ever said anything to that point. It was very disappointing.

5 star country cooking. Great people. Flavorful classics. The chicken is the deal! Small town America is the backbone and I always feel at home at places like this. Worth the jaunt off the Highway. Stop here and not some National chain and you'll be happy you did.

Good home country cooking. Been a few times always had a great experience. Can't give 5 stars cause there a charge for using a card.
