First off, the sign in the street is a compass and that should tip you off that wherever you are on your "journey" there is something for you in this place. This has been my go-to for spirit recharging and one-stop shop for gifting for many years now. Cari and Cora use great care and a lot of love in selecting the ever growing line of gifts from chimes and pendulums to unique attire and works of art and jewelry and statuary and... you just have to see it to believe it!The second part of what happens at 7th is the apothocari (and yes, that's how Cari spells it). Cari's well known talents as a soap, candle and body care artisan are well known in the region and at any given time she is teaching workshops at many of the local libraries; a perfect way to get the how-to and then scurry to 7th for supplies. Items always in stock include containers, carrier oils, essential oils (menu lists on the wall behind the counter) dried herbs and teas, lotion and soap bases, salts and much more. Patty, Cari's mom, is the mixologist and essential oils expert-in-residence during the week; her knowledge is mind boggling! (I should add, she's a great hugger :)Finally, 7th is the area's most complete resource for supplies in space clearing and energy channeling (both in space and physically). Here you will find all you need for personal wellness, meditation and manisfestation. They carry a comprehensive selection of polished stones as well as some which lean toward collectible specimens. All are lovingly marked with type/name. The selection of incense is also well planned- no tutti-frutti stuff here, it's the real deal from nag champa to dragons blood and sage bundles- and yes they have abalone shells and turkey feathers .What the reader needs to take away from this review is: you don't need to have a reason to go to 7th Street. In fact it's the best place to go when you just have some time to fill.. just walk in the bell-ringing-door and find your direction!

I first discovered this shop shortly after its opening about 19 years ago. They had so many cool things and I loved that they sold local artist work. I haven't been in for many years and things have definitely changed. The shop was always small but it's now tiny. They only use the front room and use the back room for workshops (soaps, oils). Their products have downsized greatly and there's not much for sale besides oils, gems, jewelry, incense, & dreamcatchers. I do miss the old shop but it's still a cute place. My kids enjoyed picking out gems to take home. My son couldn't believe he now own a real piece of obsidian (Minecraft players know why this is so cool).

I have shopped at this store for several years. Their customer service is unbelievable! I couldn't locate a specific item I was looking for, and the staff there informed me they would order it for me. They are so friendly, and have always welcomed their guests with opened arms.

A wonderful hidden treasure!I was drawn in by a sign advertising singing bowls out front, knowing the place had to be pretty cool, but I was really blown away.7th Street Gifts is ADORABLE and has so many items in different price ranges! The owner herself helped me out, and she was beyond nice. They make a variety of items in the next room of the store, have locally made items as well as items made in the USA. I would highly highly highly recommend this store for gift giving.I will definitely be back!

Years ago a friend of mine told me about a small, family owned gift shop in Newport when I asked him about some essential oils he had. It took several more years before I inadvertently found the shop, lost in the grid of one way streets off of Monmouth St. I'm always amazed that despite the sheer amount of beautiful art, toys, incense, jewelry, bath products and many other items overflowing from the shelves there is virtually no dust and I don't feel overwhelmed by clutter. After becoming a semi-regular customer, the younger woman behind the counter (whose name again escapes me) would greet me by my name and has always been not only extremely easy to chat with but full off good information and enthusiasm. When I was looking for loose incense and a good charcoal burner I had almost too many choices. There is a partial wall of bagged herbs, teas and other sundries. I've made it a point to purchase several bars of homemade soap whenever I stop by. On a round rack in the middle of the back room are shirts and other adorable clothing items with scores of plushies and puppets on top. I've stopped purchasing jewelry items but I get sucked into their glass case every time, asking to view several pieces of high quality, hand-crafted silver and stone pieces. In the front room they carry wind chimes, cards, a lot of amazing gift items, toys and other items the family has found. I've seen quality hula-hoops and have known friends who have stopped by when they carried didgeridoos.Upstairs is a small gallery space where local artists showcase work. The shop is a big supporter of local art and music which is again reinforced by the kiosk of local music in the lower level. The shop has a mailing list you can join inside the front door and sends out periodic post cards and flyers for art openings and supported events, usually in soft colors and flavored with faery images.I have sent many people to Seventh Street gifts and can't recommend it highly enough for a positive, sweet smelling and happy shopping experience.Per the website: During Carisa's maternity leave the shop will be closed starting Monday August 11th, and will reopen Wednesday September 3rd, 2008
