We absolutely LOVE Salt Block. From the week they opened, we have been impressed by the quality of ingredients they use and the variety of items on the menu. The entire team is always warm and welcoming. In addition to the excellent savory items on the menu, the desserts will change your life. Best almond frosting...EVER! Truly. We have friends that request "that amazing cake" every time they come from out of town. The owner, Justin, has also done several catering jobs for us. And every time it has been executed flawlessly. Every attention to detail met, amazing food and Justin is so clean and tidy! Our dinner party for 8...the kitchen looked like he had never even been there. An independent poll just rated Salt Block the best cafe in Dayton, and for good reason. It is a true Dayton Gem! Give it a try.

Food was amazing. Everything was made there at the restaurant. Very delicious! I would choose the orange marmalade over the other jams. They also have daily specials like today was the Caprese Hand Pie and Blueberry Hibiscus iced tea. The thing that threw me off was that the prices were way too expensive for being in Ohio. The prices are comparable to Denver or Seattle prices. Also, the staff wasn't the nicest. They had a really sassy attitude being an hour before closing (even though 3 people came in after me). They kinda made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a customer, even though I bought more food to go.

Came as part of my 5,700 mile food tour. Intrigued by the "Sweet honey on the lox" Everything Biscuit with Chilled Maple Smoked Salmon, Creamy Boursin Cheese, Pickled Beets & Onions, Greens, and Beet Pickled Egg. Finished with Spicy honey. It was a neat combo! I'd enjoy a little more of a crunch element to balance out the soft textures. But the flavors were on point and the staff was super friendly!

This is such a cute, nostalgic spot in Downtown Dayton. We stopped in on a whim on a Saturday around noon, and had a very pleasant experience! There is limited seating available, but we were able to snag a table for four right in the front of the restaurant by the window. It did get a little warm by the end of our meal, but it wasn't unbearable by any means.Drinks are served in mismatched, thrifty glasses, which lends itself to the comforting feeling that you're eating brunch at your grandma's house. Our glasses were never empty either, which is a testament to our server's attentiveness (despite the restaurant being very busy!) I appreciate that Salt Block has rotating list of specials in addition to their small menu. Two members of our group chose the Biscuits and Gravy, which comes with a side of thick, crispy bacon. You can select which kind of biscuit you'd like for any meal - the options are buttermilk, cheddar and thyme, or "everything." I decided to order their chicken salad of the week, which was Mediterranean-inspired, and full of bright, herby flavors. I also ordered a buttermilk biscuit on the side, and made myself a chicken salad biscuit of sorts, which I highly recommend. The prices aren't bad for the quality of food you're getting, especially considering this blossoming area of Downtown Dayton. If you're in the mood for a comforting, hearty brunch - Salt Block is the place to be!

Let me start by saying the ambiance of this location is adorable and the staff was friendly and attentive. A 10/10 experience. I got the Early Bright sandwich and it was very tasty although it was much bigger than I expected. I also loved the specialty cornbread with some butter, which was delightful. The star of the show for me though was the strawberry basil lemonade which was so good I am not sure there are enough adjectives to describe it. If you are in the area definitely come check this place out.

We walked into this quaint establishment and had a seat at the bar and an amazing time. Everything down to the tea sets and coffee mugs were a special touch. The food was bonkers it was so good! The cinnamon sugar blueberry cornbread was the best cornbread I ever had in my life. It was too much almost. I was able to get the Early Bright vegetarian with zucchini and the special looked amazing. The service was so friendly and accommodating.

If you're looking for something that's not plain or mundane, you should try the Salt Block Biscuit Company! We stopped for lunch based on the Yelp reviews and I'm so glad we did! It's not a big place but so well worth it to squeeze in!I had the Sow Sammie with a side of cheesy potatoes. Whipped pimento cheese spread piled high on an everything biscuit then topped with thick sliced crispy bacon! Oh, yea! I had the hot sauce on the side and it just made it all that much better! The cheesy potatoes were crispy, cheesy and delicious. (I dabbed some hot sauce on these too!)They are known for their weekly specials and the seafood planks. Oooooo...Yup, as Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

Wow, what a hidden little gem this was. Really good folks working there and really good biscuits. They have a good gravy as well! If your in the area check this place out. Also go check out the Children's hospital near by, has some great artwork.

The food is great, the space is small, and the owner needs to take a class on customer service...? Anger management...? Both...? He yelled at multiple customers for approaching the bar. It isn't common to waitlist a bar.... It's usually first come first serve. Maybe post a list of your strange rules...? And the sweet honey on the lox... while tasty, just call it sweet honey smoked salmon on a biscuit as that surely isn't like any lox I've seen.Edit: after my bad experience I had reached out to the owner at an attempt to right the situation. He did not. My family and friends urged me to post my review after reading similar experiences. He told me this is not my name? It is. I attempted to post my review three times yes, because I wasn't going to share our conversation. But here we are. There was no lie as yes it was me and my spouse aka multiple people. It's very easy to just say sorry? Don't worry bud, I won't be back!
