I recently helped a friend plan a wedding reception at Purcell Banquet Center. The day of the event our group was let in at the time promised for set up, tables were set up with linens and in the formation on the contract, and everything was clean and well stocked including restrooms. If you decide this hall is the correct one for your budget expect:* You will only have one hour prior to your event for set up, even if you are told otherwise. Our group had to beg to get two hours since the wedding was exactly one hour prior and people would miss the wedding for the set up; he did eventually concede to two hours. * The DJ in the contract is the sales manager's pre-teen daughter. She's very nice, but the services she provides are playing music ONLY. Plan ahead to have someone in your party emcee or you will go without. Request a microphone for your party's emcee prior as well or one will not be provided. Also, confirm BEFORE signing the contract what music will be played and your expectations as to dedicated songs, order and timing. * China, stainless flatware, and glassware were listed in the contract but did not happen; expect paper and plastic.* The contract actually said a champagne toast would be provided, however, this did not happen. Don't expect it.Overall, the sales manager, who constantly reminded us he was a volunteer, was difficult to work with and reach; he cancelled face to face meetings and rescheduled them without notice. Do not assume verbal reassurances are word; get all expectations clearly expressed in your contract and DO NOT sign the contract if you don' t like the terms.

I contacted Ron at Purcell Banquet Hall about having a Halloween Party in which he was so quick to schedule a time to meet. At no point did he ever inform me that only cash or check is accepted to reserve the hall. I offered to run and get cash and be back in 10 minutes he advised he had no time to wait. I got back in touch with him the following Tuesday and gave a deposit in cash. I was not impressed at all with his Customer Service skills, but was eager to have this party so I went with it. 2 months before the party I asked the sales Manager if he had any suggestions for a DJ, he told me yes that a pre teen girl did his wedding and she was really good. I asked for her information and he requested I go through him. I confirmed via text message that she was available and was going to do my party. He told me that she would just need a playlist 2 weeks before the party. 3 weeks before my party I reached out to him to finish paying for the party and to get him a playlist. At that point he told me that she is no longer available and that the hall upstairs had booked her. He said if I didn't put it in the contract it was never binding. I was livid, here I was 3 weeks before a Halloween bash and no DJ. As you can imagine pricing and availability for a DJ at the last minute was not easy. I reached out to him and asked if he could knock anything off the hall rental since he pretty much booked my DJ right out from under my nose. He advised NO the DJ and hall have nothing to do with one another. He was horrible to deal with and he stressed on multiple occasions that he is only a volunteer. He told me he could meet at one time and then said a different time at the last minute. He advised that he lives in KY and that he just volunteers here. He really forgot that I'm the clubs Customer. I however did remind him of that, but nothing changed. He said one thing and did another the whole time. Had I not invited 125 people to this Halloween party I would have cancelled at the last minute. I would never book another party at this Hall. The only positive thing I have to say is that Mel the volunteer bartender that worked my party was awesome.
